First let us define what a “trim tab” is… A trim tab is a micro-rudder at the end of the larger rudder that steers the big ships… (at least that is how it was explained to me.) And what the trim tab does is to steer the larger rudder and doing it in a way that it requires a lot less force… The trim tab principle can be used in everyday life to accomplish massive changes while using minimal effort… What needs to be done is to find out exactly where the pressure should be applied to exert maximal momentum… As an example… let us say that you want to get an appointment with a very important and very busy person… that could be quite difficult to arrange… the trim tab in this case would be that person’s private secretary… you don’t direct your efforts toward the person that you want to meet… but with the secretary… she's the one that will get you to meet the boss... That technique was taught by Werner Erhard in the EST seminars… and I once used it to get entrance to one of Canada’s most difficult person to reach, the Honorable Pierre Elliot Trudeau… ex prime minister of our country… That is just one example... but it can be used in a great many other cases... Try it… you’ll like it… it's free and effective... . |

My explanation of a trim tab may have been vague ... so, for the sake of clarity, here's what it looks like... ![]() When the trim tab is deflected to one side... the larger rudder goes in the opposite direction to change the ship's direction... . |

That's a cool technique, Shamou. It reminds me of the 80/20 rule: finding the small inputs that lead to major results. I'm reading a sales book right now called Getting to VITO - The Very Important Top Officer. It's all about how to meet with important people by showing them and their gatekeepers (like secretaries or purchasers) that you have something valuable to offer them. |
