| In Steve's article "Do It Now", he says "I had no time to study outside of class because most of that time was used for my job. So I simply had to learn everything the first time it came up. If a teacher wrote out something on the board, I would memorize it then and there; I couldn't afford to learn things later and risk falling behind." How do you memorize something the first time you see it? Are there any special memory techniques for this? I just started linking and pegging, and I'm having trouble applying it for normal use- can it be used to memorize something as someone is saying it? Is there anything similar to Photoreading, but for listening? Thanks. |

| Memory can be trained through practice... I have seen a dumb guy who could memorize a whole page in the phone book every day... and he did it through practice... The brain is like a muscle... if you work it... it will grow stronger... . |

On the other hand, people can waste hours, days, or longer arguing about whether the glass is half empty or half full. Who cares, as long as it quenches your thirst! |

| As Shamou said, as far as memory goes anyone can learn how to improve that process, and practicing what you've learnt will make it easier. As for learning the first time, perhaps Steve used something like Scott's method: Scott H Young » How to Ace Your Finals Without Studying
