Talking Personal development for Beginners

Am I the only one thinking that Steve's blog is only for people in at least middle level of consciousness-like Acceptance, while everyone below that thinks it's utter cr-p?

I disagree with your theory. I've run across people here who are at the level of shame. I personally am only entering the level of courage. I'm sick of suffering. I want to do better now. Speaking of which, I need to go work on my screenplay about depression and PTSD. Thanks for the reminder.

Yep. You're the only one.

I think there are many reasons people could think Steve's blog is cr*p, and not all to do with "levels of consciousness". A big one is that Steve's stuff embraces a certain metaphysics and I would guess that a Catholic or an Athiest could have a hard time finding the useful info when Subjective Reality is all mixed in.

Well "agnostic" doesn't really count, does it? Open-minded by definition, you are.

I don't believe in this linear model of levels of consciousness. But I've seen all kinds of people and all kinds of consciousnesses here, so I think the correlation between how much someone appreciate Steve's work and their level of consciousness isn't that clear.

I describe my agnostic atheism by saying, "I don't know, but I don't think so." I find it to be the simplest explanation.

A little over three years ago while idly browsing some forums, I somehow found a link to Steve's site. During that time of my life, I felt very frustrated with myself and victimized by others. But I listened to Steve's first podcast out of curiosity and boredom anyway, and it hit me like a train. Somehow I suddenly realized my faults and shame were my own responsibility. And knowing that, I began pushing myself to improve.

I definitely didn't think his blog was crap, otherwise I wouldn't be hanging around here (or maybe anywhere for that matter).

Also, I've shown Steve's blog to many friends who live (and lived) rather unconsciously. Some have cried, some have become angry, some didn't care, and some have taken his message close to heart. So, I agree with Rose of Cairo that the correlation between someone's appreciation of Steve's work and their level of consciousness isn't that clear.

I think this is partially true. Steve wrote his first blog entry five years ago at which point he was probably around the level of courage. He's levels beyond that now. So his articles cover that entire range too.

I'd agree that those people working at the levels of Pride to Neutrality probably find his earlier articles a lot more useful than his later ones. I know I do.

Personally, I think it's a shame that there aren't articles geared at helping people at the lower levels of shame to anger to become more conscious. But Steve passed those transitions before he started blogging and, unless he kept detailed notes, probably can't "think down to" that level now.

P.S. Steve no longer believes the levels of consciousness model to be accurate. I'm just using it here as a shorthand.

P.P.S. As an agnostic, while I have my doubts that Subjective Reality is True, I can see how it's an empowering mental model. (I can see it has a few traps too though, including a tendency to blame the victim).

I share a similar opinion. If you're not at least at the level of courage, reading this material might not help you much. You need to take responsibility for yourself and take actions toward your goals. If you're just a self-help junkie, like me, you probably don't fit that category.
