Default Some cool remarks already...

Just got the book in the mail. Read the first chapter, but a few small remarks I want to make already.

- One of the most useful models for me in PD is the theory of the triune brain. The brain consists of a physical/primal/instinctive part, an emotional part and a logical part. This perfectly integrates with truth (logical), love (emotional) and power (physical). In the triune brain model the challenge is to integrate the three parts of the brain, where they usually all have there own agenda. Integration of the three parts would result in what Steve calls 'intelligence'.

- I always felt there was something missing with how guys like Eckhart Tolle see the world. It seems they are only looking for peace, peace and more peace and therefore missing out an essential part of life. I suppose in Steve's model there world view can be derived from oneness (truth and love). They completely disregard the principle of power, and therefore courage, authority and intelligence.

Curious how I will see it when I get to the end.

Cool remarks

I have some remarks too, and instead of starting a thread, I'll just add them here.

The book has so many exercises to do, and I feel like doing them all. I'm being careful not to feel overwhelmed. . I can see how I can be working on the book for a long time working through all of the exercises.

I am starting to really like Steve's definition of intelligence - as being aligned with truth, love, and power. It was only near the end of the chapter on intelligence when I could begin to accept that new definition. What clicked for me is how I've long felt that people mislabeled people as smart if they only had good knowledge, yet their lives may not be any better, or may be even worst then other people who weren't labeled smart. That didn't make sense to me. So, now I can see that what traditionally is labeled as intelligence only refers to truth, yet without love and power, you can't live intelligently.

Oh, and when I read the chapter on Oneness and browse through spirituality, I thought "Steve has some guts!". Those are probably the most probablematic chapters for those who are completely unexposed to those views. I know that had I come across those chapters two years, I'd have completely disregarded them. I can accept his views as being resonable views only because I've been reading his and Erin's blog for the past two years. So I can see a large segment of the population may reject his book due to those chapters. However, Ophra is now talking about past lives, so who knows, maybe a lot of Christians may be able to accept the book and those views And if not, there are plenty of non-Christians around.

I've recommended the book to one family member so far who also ordered it

I wouldn't be surprised if Steve was on Oprah

It would actually be pretty cool. I think Steve should actually consider it now that he has a decent reputation!

It's funny, I thought of that too. Who knows, maybe Ophra will invite Steve for a guest appearance next year.

Another remark - I bet the book in some future years will be retitled something like "Seven Principles for Personal Development" or something like that That's how I think of the book in my mind.

I've always been confused about Christianity and Spirituality. It's possible to have both, and a Christian shouldn't be threatened by people challenging their beliefs. If they really believed without any doubt then they wouldn't go so defensive right? It just means they are resisting investigating their own religion.

As for Christianity as a pursuit of spirituality, I say it's totally possible. There's so much truth, love and power in the best parts of the bible that you can tell how much of an improvement it can make, as long as you approach it with intelligence.

Perhaps it's time for Christians to stop pretending to believe and actually start properly believing.
