Default PDSP coming out in German

I was told the German rights for my book have been sold, so the book will be coming out in German at some point. I don't know when or where though.

This is pretty cool knowing that these ideas will be shared in multiple languages. Since the book's core concepts are culturally independent, the key ideas should translate well.

Persönliche Entwicklung für Intelligente Leute???

If you need someone who understands both your ideas and the German language to verify whether the translator did a good job, just ask.

Talking about this in terms of “bad news” or “bad judgment by business leaders” seems archaic. It’s like describing World War One as “a serious diplomatic concern.”
Bruce Sterling about the financial crisis.

Hey, Steve, nice translation. That's so cool.
I'm gonna read the English version, though. I'm already used to the way you write in English.

I doubt they'll translate "smart" with "intelligent", as there is a difference between being smart and being intelligent. I guess "smart" would translate more to "geschickt" or "clever" or "schlau".

How cool the book will get translated! Congratulations But I'll read the english version in october of course.

I join Brutha on this: in case you need someone who speaks German fluently and knows you and your book, I'm ready to help out too.

Great news Steve. Out of curiosity - Can you tell us the publishing company at this point or is it too early?

The German publisher is Arkana Verlag (part of Random House).

Cool! I've got a few books from them. They have some very interesting stuff.

I'm not sure, but based on what I've seen I think what they publish is quite new agey and more about holistic health and esoteric stuff. Their public is not the corporate environment you seem to be targeting, if I remember your thread about the book cover well.

Doesn't Random House publish Eckhart Tolle's stuff in German? And all his stuff for that matter?

He is from Germany, after all.

I don't know. I've got the Power of Now in German from Kamphausen Verlag. I don't know if Kamphausen and Random House are related

The target audience for my book is self-help enthusiasts, so in the bookstores it will be in the self-help section. But I'd like to be able to reach other markets as well, including businesses.

My own favourite German title for Steve's book would be "Persönliches Wachstum für Fortgeschrittene" - I think it would fit, although it isn't a literal translation.

Hi Steve,

great news, though please please please make sure that they translate at least the keywords properly. I have read so many badly translated American textbooks, that I always read the original version now.

I think it would be more like Persönlichkeitsentwicklung für schlaue Leute. But it is really hard to translate the title adequately because the German word "Persönlichkeitsentwicklung" or "persönliche Entwicklung" is more associated with heavy old-fashioned psychological theories a la Freud, Erikson etc. ... I suppose most marketing guys would use the English "personal development" for all more new-age associated stuff and end up with something like Personal Development für intelligente Leute

My personal favorite: Persönlichkeitsentwicklung für kluge Köpfe

I sent an email to Arkana offering to proofread the translated version before they print it, to make sure it's accurately translated. I'm curious to see if they will accept

Mine too

Any news regarding the German translation? Publishing date?
I recently ordered the original through amazon but I'm happy to recommend the book to friends who prefer to read it in German.

Yes, 'für kluge Köpfe' ist best, I agree - although I would prefer 'Persönliches Wachstum für kluge Köpfe' myself.

I guess it will be a while for the book to be published in German - publishers normally want to see how well the book sells in the original language first.

The presales were enough to get them to decide to publish it in German at the time Steve started this thread.
