Guilty as charged. Belfast.

Where are you based?

Ah cool. Nice to meet you.

I'm from L'Derry. I was in Belfast last week actually visiting friends. I hear the 'Tall Ships' thing that was happening was successful? Never made it myself.

Default From the Southeast

I'm from South Kilkenny, near Waterford, although I've been living in New Orleans since 2007. I'm moving back home at the end of the year and plan on living in Cork for a few months.

I'm looking to connect with lots of like-minded folks back in Ireland so this thread is very timely for me. Thanks for starting it, Darren.

Are any of you on Twitter or Facebook?

Default We're all Irish

I'm an American but I half Irish!
It now appears that President Obama is jumping on the Irish bandwagon as well! Maybe its Ireland's 20% Unemployment Rate or the fact that their National Debt is 15% of its GDP that makes him feel as if he's at home when he's in Dublin?????

I've lived in both capitals on the island.. and maybe I'm slightly biased given that I'm from the north, but Belfast is definitely the better city!

And that's where I'll be for the summer so perhaps a few of us could put something together?

Just wanted to say that I am very curious about Ireland and in particular Dublin. Dublin must be an amazing city that can be a source of inspiration for perhaps the greatest writer of the last century - James Joyce.

Hope I get to visit it one day.

Irish, and itching to leave. Should really get my hands on some of Joyce's works and digest it before I do though, despite my lack of patriotism.

Dublin is a great city and a good vacation could definitely be had. As well as day trips to Bray and Dun Laoghaire, you could venture further to Belfast, Galway and Cork. If you come to Ireland we have a growing couchsurfing community so you could enjoy the craic with the locals.

After more than two decades of living on this island, I was pleasantly surprised to discover than being Irish finally comes into its own when you travel overseas. The free stuff I get (beers, taxi rides, various merchandise) just for being Irish has been epic!

Its also the cheapest! I think that sounds good, maybe at the end of the summer? I would really like to sort people out with accomodation, I'm not able to yet unfortuantley.
