If you check the globe, you will find that we pop up out of the pacific in the southern hemisphere. We are known as Godzone because of our natural pureness, beauty and wondorous landscapes. North Island and South Island, we are all Kiwi people. You are welcome here. I love the freedom to do all things possible, therefore I love my country. Do you have a connection with NZ? What are your thoughts on this Nation. Let's talk. |

I've had the wonderful good fortune to visit NZ a couple of times. First time was on one of those Con-Tiki tours when I made some great friends there. I've since been back to visit. (They live in Palmerston North.) One of my favourite places on the planet is Paihia. |

Caesar, Hi. Hope your job is worth the down side of how you view AKL. I think mine is. I am in the rural zone and travel fifty kms to my job which again is remote. Don't see very much of the fast city life. I do enjoy being in amongst it all from time to time though. Have you seen all or much of NZ? Do you think that attitudes vary much at all from region to region, top to bottom? |

I've been looking into moving to NZ because it looks like dreamland to me. I also read about the people and government in NZD and it sounds amazing. People sound like they're very down to earth. Where would be the best place to move considering the following criteria: I want to live 0-30 minutes from some of the best surf spots, in a warm climate. I want to be within 30-60 minutes of a large city, with lots to do. If you could answer those for me, I'll probably move to NZD and hug you.

Auckland has more people and more traffic. It is spread out a bit too with no central place that has everything. Christchurch is in the south island and is therefore a bit more chilled out. Wellington has a very compact city centre with everything a 5-15 min walk away. Good weather over all but when it is wet and windy the rain comes in sideways. Lots of cultural events and festivals. Depends what sort of job you work, pace of life style that you want etc. Wellington is where the government is, Auckland has more big businesses. I live in Wellington and a few of my mates are avid surfers, some even own a surf shop in Lyall bay.

haha thanks for quick responses! I've also been looking at Mahia peninsula and Piha beach, they look beautiful but looked somewhat remote. Right now I live in the US in New Jersey. Water temp gets 5-10 Celsius (36-42F) in the winter, and only warms up to 70F MAX for less than two months out of the year, so water temp is no problem. Very unconsistent, weak swells. You need to constantly watch the weather and time it right to score any decent waves. |

Hi all! My husband and I are considering a move to NZ for a few years when he finishes his PhD (DC), still about 4 years away. We live in the US, but we have always wanted to travel/live abroad. We were both in the military and never went anywhere. My father and my neighbors have visited NZ and they all loved it. I have been doing research, and it is on the top of our list so far. So, tell me what is the best thing/things about living in NZ, then tell me the worst. Thanks! |

I lived in NZ for a year as an exchange student when I was 17-18. Had a great time. Travelled around heaps - sometimes as a backpacker and other times for fights as an amateur boxer. I truly miss it and I'm beating myself constantly for not having made it back there yet. Best thing about NZ? Probably the people, the 'cosy' atmosphere, all the country has to offer in terms of outdoors / sports / activities, and the amazing scenery of course. I could easily spend the rest of my life there. I might visit next year. |

Tropicthink - I love that you mention amatuer fighting, and then beating yourself constantly in almost the same sentence. I hope you weren't being too literal I reside in Wellington NZ, but originally from Scotland. Best things: Scenery, friendly people and great general attitude, cross-cultural mix of people (I think it was great to spend some time at school here and mixing with all different colours, religions, cultures etc). Lot of spirituality Worst things: Bit of a binge-drinking society, people can be really tunnel visioned if they haven't managed to get out of NZ and experienced the wider world, quite a lot of guys obsessed with cricket and different forms of rugby and nation does tend to suffer a bit of a mental breakdown if we tend to do badly as a nation in these sports. Also the education system is a bit broken as it's turned into a "no child left behind" deal which lowers the bar for everyone. But I love it here anyway. |

Was born in Dannevirke, lived in Perth Australia for the last 28 years and have since moved across to Scotland. Was back in NZ in 2006 touring both islands, still have family in Wanaka and would loved to live there if I could get my line of work. Also loved Pahia and Rotorua once you get used to the sulphur smell |

Hey there's good surfing to be had in Dunedin, aalllll the way in the South. True it's not tropical but it's great here, very relaxed atmo wonderful people. I'm a born Dutchy and moved to NZ 6 years ago. Have lived in Auckland two years and 2.5 in Dunedin. I like both cities for different reasons. It's like comparing apples and oranges you know. Auckland is warmer in summer (allthough it can get scorchy in the south) but definitely has more rain too I reckon. There's tons of traffic opposed to here where you can get from a to b reasonably quick. I like the heated salt outdoor pool they have here at st Clair beach and you can see the surfers from here too haha when drinking my coffee. I like the fact nature is so close with seeing penguins and sealions at the peninsula, hiking and mountainbiking to do and great culture/arts and fun nightlife. I think I will stay here |

Auckland is the warmest city in New Zealand, climate-wise. Personally, I love this city and think it is full of awesome people. Some people say Auckland is soulless, but I think these must be people who don't get out much.

These people should go to the city at night in Auckland. So beautiful and awesome, especially if you're driving around in the car and yelling things out (err positive things) so many loving responses and you met so many cool crazy people. Gotta love Auckland

I'm from the UK and moved to the Auckland region 18 months ago with my Kiwi partner. I got my NZ residency last week My family are praying my need to move 11,000 miles away is temporary insanity but I'm here to stay! The quality of life is leaps and bounds better than England... there is just no contest. I'm so over city life - working in central London will do that to you - and love living away from the crowds. The scenery is also amazing. This place is so unspoiled... |
