Hey guys! Anyway, I recently received $1000 unexpectedly, and a serious wardrobe update is what it's going toward. It's time for me to start ditching the name-brand-emblazoned zip-up hoodies/fitted tees to transition into a more timeless and mature wardrobe. What would be involved with this? I'm looking for specific ideas. What separates the older-teen from the young adult with regards to clothing? (i'm a female) Last edited by Redisbest; 08-13-2007 at 10:47 PM. |

Get yourself a black pencil skirt and some seamed stockings. Your life and job interviews will never be the same. Other than that, not to be nosy, but how are you built? Dress size? Measurements? Height? You can PM me this stuff, or we can discuss calling to verify I'm a woman and not some perv guy. |

Have you ever watched What Not To Wear? It's a funny show with sort a reality makeover theme, but it includes a lot of good information that is tailored to different body shapes. One of the main things they seem to encounter in their subjects is grown men and women who still dress as if they're in high school or college. I've learned several things from this show, including to not be afraid of bright colors or prints, and that high heel shoes can be sexy AND comfortable. Check it out at: What Not to Wear : TLC What Not to Wear : TLC |

Blow half on yourself and take the other half and give it to the version of you that needs it the most. Someone in your life could really use $500 to get out of trouble right now. Doing this means you get to have a nice new dress and feel great about helping someone else. Improve your ego and your consciousness........then you get the best of both worlds. Max |

I'm 5'7" 120 lbs and relatively flat-chested but still got the curvy-athletic-chick physique. Last edited by Redisbest; 08-14-2007 at 03:35 AM.

I second what Ree said, watch "What Not to Wear"! Since it's $1,000, I would invest it in some "basic" pieces that you can't go wrong with - meaning, simple pieces that you could easily mix and match with other pieces and layer with to create interesting outfits. Some include:
Once you have the basics down, you could buy different accessories to amp up the outfit as well. It might sound confusing, but after you watch WNTW and Google up some fashion things, it'll make sense. Hope this helps! |

Having said that, I don't have an opinion whether you should give away some of the money or not. It's your money. I second the What Not to Wear recommendation. They can be a bit snarky, but I like their advice overall. Also, check out this Christine Kane article - it sounds like just what you need to read right about now! She makes some book recommendations about how to choose clothing... one of them sounds quite deep! Make sure to read the comments after the article, too - good stuff to consider in there! Don't tell me you'd berate the child for starving and walk away???...... If you don't see the starving child or anyone who's fallen on hard times as a part of you, what a very cynical way to view the world........what would the master Tony Robbins say????????? Max

Small chest? Athletic build? Wrap dress. Gives an hour glass shape. Flattering! Pinstripe separates? Also good. Don't fall into the librarian trap and don't fear asking store girls. Last edited by NotesMaeve; 08-14-2007 at 11:55 PM.
