Hey guys!

Okay, so I wanted to share this with you all because I was going through some of my old writings and I was shocked by how much I've stayed on track. I don't write goals and intentions and all of that stuff because that's just not my style, but for a class paper back in high school I had to write out where I saw myself in 2018 and I'm SO surprised because I'm actually moving in step with it. I completely forgot about this writing but here it is and I'll tell you how much I've achieved so far. Yes, some of it is humorous (I'm still 5ft5 inches lol)

"The year is 2018 and I am twenty-six years old. Luckily for me, I had a bit of a growth spurt at the age of seventeen and I hit five feet seven in height. I decided over a decade ago that I would never in my life work a nine to five job in a cubicle and to this day, I have yet to step foot into one to work for such a long period of time. Instead, I work as a criminal lawyer for the Law Offices of Richard Birkenwald in North Miami Beach, Florida. Thank God for my Columbia and Harvard Law background because in two years, I’m expected to make partner.

Despite my occupation and earned wealth and success, I still live a simple life. Although, I have a huge house, I seldom watch television or use my cell phone. I spend a lot of my free time either in praying and reflecting in solitude, chatting with my closest friends, researching the best black hair care methods and products, or reading in the quiet of my home. Probably one of the best things about living life simply, is the fact that I get to clear my mind and have some real quiet time. After all, with all of the drama, rush, and conflict that goes on within my job, I need a few hours of solitude.

I've actually accomplished most of these things well before the year 2018 and changed my mind on some of the things well before 2009 was complete because I found a path that filled me with more joy and enthusiasm. Here's what I've completed:
  • Established a personal, honest relationship with God (no religion, new age philosophy, chants, mantras, or lines necessary).
  • Detached from social networking, cell phones, television, to the point where it is entertainment used only once in a while if ever.
  • Attend a very good nursing school that I am expected to graduate from with my BSN in 2013.
  • Transitioning to natural curly/kinky afro-like hair without the use of extensions and experiencing some of the healthiest hair I've ever had!
  • No where close to being in the direction of working in a cubicle or desk job from 9-5. I questioned my disdain for the office setting and last summer and the summer prior decided to test out the setting. Yep. My heart was no where in it.
  • Healthy detachment from family, peers, circumstances, and friends.
  • Mental clarity, focus, and productivity. I'm amazed by how quickly I get things done.

While I didn't put this in the writing (I didn't always "share my shame" back then), I use to suffer from a lot of depression, intense unstable mood swings, and feelings of low self-esteem and worth. I'd create a "dynasty" for myself in the spring and summer and sabotage it by late winter. I just couldn't function. These swings became more rapid with time. After finding my light in 2010, I've since detached from external circumstances that I can continue to proceed in the direction I want to go. I still experience defeats, setbacks, shortcomings but I rebound from them amazingly fast knowing they aren't the measure for my life.

Anyways, just wanted to share

Ciao~

What a fantastic testament. I am glad for you and inspired as well.
Can you say more about finding your light in 2010?

Thanks Greek Dog.

In terms of finding my light, I found that what I was looking for all along (sense of self, strength, will power, true beauty, growth, confidence, spiritual connectivity & God, love, self worth, self esteem, etc) was right there with me all along, inside, never deserting me, never fleeting, but ever present. I came into this world with all the tools I need to navigate it inside of me and so if I just allow my light to guide me...I'll be right where I am meant to be...all the time.

Default I'm happy for you!

It's great you're on track with your life, there are many more wonderful things to come.

Writing things down is some important when it comes to goal setting. Like you, I've written down plans for my life, forgot about them, and then discovered them to have manifested on their own.

I've already accomplished most of my 2011 goals and it feels good. I can't wait to do more cool and fun stuff in 2012

Again, congratulations!!!

Thank you! Straight up, I tried to be a follow-fashion and write out my 2011 goals and I ended up chucking them because it made me way too rigid. I just follow my heart, which wants to further develop her skills in nursing and write write write lately. I'm only one exam away from being able to get CNA certified. So excited!!
