when you follow a self-appointed "guru" (scumbag), like some dumb sheep and he locks you into a sweat-lodge to boil, YOU as sheep (in a form of a human being) is also responsible for what happens to you. Of course justice must be served, but these poor people were real dumb bastards.

This is an example why one of the most important characteristics in a leader is humbleness, not meaning they should be poor or modest, but just to realize that they are just like their followers, not more special. Seems like JRA let the whole hype from his participation in The Secret go to his head, and he mistakenly thought he was some kind of God, who "knows the way". Funny thing is, this ceremony was meant to help the participants overcome their blockage to enlightenment, I think this ceremony helped JR on his path. teaching him a good lesson about humbleness and shrinking his own ego. |

So what was this? Some kind of cult? I read the article but I still don't understand what happened can someone summarize and put it here on the site? As I understood it, they took a spiritual trip in the forest and people died, right? What is he being charged with? And how does that make him a bad person if they decided to go? They knew they couldn't handle it and they still went, or maybe I'm not understanding... |

The interviews with his former assistants and those that helped with the event were pretty damning. If someone can find a link to that interview/investigation it will really open your eyes into the whole scandal. Maybe they were sheep in giving away their money, but sheep or not you don't stand there and watch people burn and suffer. That's just an ethical moral obligation that everyone is meant to address. | |

The sweat lodge is a ritual done by natave Americans , I think if he had done this properly there would of been few or no problems . I think his problem was not letting others help the people that were in trouble . The wiki link has some info Sweat lodge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia If I find more links I will post them . desert rat p.s. this was not a cult , the people payed for this . I have worked with Native Americans, and know that it takes 20 years to train a medicine person. I believe that those who have not been trained in the traditional ways should never, never attempt to imitate those ceremonies. This was insane and clearly irresponsible to do without a trained Native American to run the Sweat Lodge. And, is JR a boxing coach or a personal enlightenment coach? A boxing coach will push his trainees to go farther. Doesn't a personal enlightenment coach train his students to listen to their inner voice? How could he tell them to ignore their inner voice when their voices were screaming to "get the hell out of there!" |

When I first saw him in The Secret, I didn't like him. I felt a little bit of hate in him. He had this attitude, like "I keep telling these dumb f0ks these things and they still don't get it!". I guess it has something to do with it... Anyway, you can't know if he deserves to be in jail or not. Didn't walk in his shoes to know... |

I dont feel any anger for James Ray , I just feel he thought he thought he knew more than he realy did . If he had set up the sweat lodge better , had some parmedics there maby ,allowed any one sick to get help , this would not of hapned . He made pleny of money on this he could have worked through Native Americans already doing sweat lodges . desert rat
