Joyous Bill Paying

I am reprogramming myself to enjoy paying bills. Bills used to trigger dread and fear. Now they trigger joy and trust and a celebration of my newfound wealth (a direct result of my personal growth). I am ridiculously proud of myself and I am so grateful to Steve for his generosity and to everyone who participates on this forum, for the wealth of information and inspiration!

Here is a story about joyous bill paying:

I paid a road toll bill by snail mail.

I wrote the address in bright texta and put pink hearts and bright green dashes all over the envelope. I wrote happy messages such as "happy christmas wonderful envelope opener!" and " Thanks for the great road!!" and "great sydney zooming!" All in bright colours with some gold stars.

I got a message on my voice mail fronm the manager.

"You really made our day. Thankyou so much. It's not often we get client feedback. We put the envelope on our christmas tree"

For a while, I was selling lots of things on eBay. When shipping, I would always decorate my boxes with bright stickers of hearts, flowers, butterflies and the like. I'd also write, "Thank you for handling this package with care", in colored sharpies. I had a 100% successful delivery rate and great feedback, too. Most importantly it was fun to do, and all my stuff was wrapped with love.

Thanks for the idea - I think I'll get my stickers out for the next round of bill paying. And for on-line bill-paying, I'll try to find a comment field and say something nice.

It's a great idea stellabeam. I've also tried using a similar technique when paying my bills & it amazing how different one can feel.

I got this idea from a book written by Sandy Forster so I can't claim that I was clever enough to come up with the idea.

She points out that if you are trying to focus on financial abundance it can be very hard when you are confronted with bills, not to be focusing on the lack in your life. Her solution when she was struggling financially was to turn the situation around by being greatful for the opportunity to pay her bills & she also decorated her cheques & envelopes when she sent them out.

I pay all my bills over the phone or by Electronic transfer so I don't send out payments by mail. When I am making the payment I try & ignore the amount (even if it is hurting) & not focus on it too much. I try & put a positive spin on it ( which again was Sandy's idea) & feel greatful.

Eg Now if I am paying the power bill I mentally think how appreciative I am that I have been provided with the electricity to have a life of ease to run our lighting, heating, cooking etc & to have the opportunity of this continuing by paying the power company for this service.

When I pay the rates I think how fortunate I am to live in my own lovely house & have all the services & amenities that Council provides us with through this payment.

When I'm at the supermarket I try & consciously think how greatful/ pleased/ appreciative I am to be spending this money here to enable my family to eat
healthily etc. I'm sure you get the idea!
