I've never been much for 'reality shows', but I find this program irresistible viewing. Among the reasons for this is the crystal clear correlation between the inner state of the owners and the outer conditions of their businesses. Especially relevant to me is how the frequent tendency to cling to the past (as expressed in the outdated or pedestrian menus and museum or even mausoleum atmospheres of some of these places) results in a definite repellent effect. In comes Chef Irvine and Co. to pry, if painfully, the past from the owners' white-knuckle grips, and in short order the tears become ones of joy as the spaces go from drab and dusty to bright and clean and somber handfuls of browsers become packs of cheerful chatty diners. It's a feel-good show and good support material for my own IM/LoA attitude... |

| Good observation frogster. I think you're right. And of the faux-rality shows, that's one of the more tolerable ones. I often caught the wrap-up because it was the lead-in to another show I like, and even with just that the points you made were evident. They should have a follow up to see how long it takes for some of those restauranteurs to return to some of the old ways. |

I'd also like extended followups, because through the same intuition I think I also have a pretty good sense as to who is most likely to fail... --- Speaking of the faux aspect of the Irvine series, I wonder how much of his about-to-blow-a-gasket rage is for the camera?
