Strange, it does seem to happen to me sometimes as well. Hmm could you elaborate a little?
Sometimes when we 'force' ourselves to be positive, we are pushing the negative thoughts away, but since we offer so much resistance, they come back even stronger. I find it's way better to acknowledge those negative thoughts, be realistic about them and proactively think how to overcome the problems posed by them.
Eg from my experience: "This person is picky and fussy about how I treat her house and possessions. Since I am living with her, I should just be aware and be careful how I do things around here." Note that I am not putting any positive/negative spin here, I am simply acknowledging the fact.
This acknowledging facts thing could also be interpreted as 'not caring' I guess
