Default Guided meditation cd suggestions?

I have trouble getting into alpha on my own. I've tried counting backwards, following my breath and other techniques but I think I would do much better if I had a guided meditation cd.

Which one should I buy?

Most of the guided meditation CDs are really hypnosis CDs. They guide you using imagery, usually, through a script - but they give you no opportunity to learn to control your own thoughts, which is the cornerstone of meditation. You just passively listen and let your imagination produce images in response to auditory prompting. Its no different from watching TV as far as teaching your own mind to focus - the only difference between a hypnosis CD and TV is the content and lack of catchy imagery.

However, the new Abraham Hicks CD/MP3 meditation does a really nice job of helping you actually meditate. YOU must maintain a breathing pattern throughout - you don't get to passively sit there - yet its not quite as difficult as trying to meditate without any assistance.

I am liking the Abraham Hicks guided meditation. The main reason is that it keeps my mind from wandering. I can meditate on my own, but the encouraging words of Abraham via Esther Hicks plus the music keeps my mind aligned with my best intentions.

She periodically says, "Breathe in", and "breathe out". The breathing cycle is 3 counts breathing in and 5 counts breathing out.

In the end, what happens is that contradictory damaging thoughts are avoided. Your meditation time becomes more pure. If you have had trouble focusing when you attempt meditation, this may be the CD for you. YMMV, but I like it.

If you have iTunes, go to the podcasts section of the iTunes store and search Meditation Oasis. They have a bunch of free guided meditation podcasts, and I love Mary Maddux's voice, she hits just the right tone for me.
