How to let go.....when you want something really bad!!!!

Detachment is the key to manifesting your desires. I have been successful at manifesting many things because of this. But there are times, i must admit..... that i have difficulty detaching from certain things that i really really desire. I was wondering if anyone had an effective way of detaching from one's desire?

What if you think about other desires? This could be a good way to detach from your first desire. But what I think is more effective is accepting your current reality as it is. Trying to eliminate denial.

What Rubens said might work. For example, I got the car that I wanted when I started to focus on getting a scooter. If I got the scooter, I wouldn't need a car (at least that was what I tought back then:D). But instead of a scooter, I got a car that I was asking for before. So my advice would be to start focusing on something, that would substitute that what you would like and the former may manifest more quickly.

Recognize that whatever it is you're experiencing attachment for is only a signpost for your heart's desire, not your actual heart's desire.

Look for the heart's desire, generate it, and then the signpost is just icing on the cake.

Same thing happened to me, except I substituted having my own place for a car. Now I got the car recently, now I need to find something to substitute for having my own place. Then again, I am not too much in a hurry for that.

^This. Which is to say - realize what you are really after is a feeling. Then feel that feeling.

Detachment isn't really necessary though...it just helps most because when you're detached you don't care that you don't have it, so aren't focused on that. If you can convince yourself that you DO have it though...then you can be perfectly attached and manifest.

One other very good way is to keep wanting it really, really badly. And have the intensity increase - and do this for a very, very long time (say, years and years)...and then one day you will be so fed up you will say STUFF IT! Then it'll come...and it'll come so fast and in such a miraculous way you'll jump for joy. :p

Yup - the heart's desire is really a state, and you can be in any state you want, any time you want.

this is a really good thread,,, it helped me realize what i may be doin wrong, i was kind of just trying to forget about my desires or focus on other ones, but in doin that i was kind of refusing/in denial about my attachment to a desire,,, thanks for this thread and thanks for your post, , you helped me see more clearly what was going on,, and even though ive realized this plenty of times, i had a much deeper realization of how it is really just my heart searching for the feeling that the desire would bring, and its not about what comes, its about the feeling,,,,, thank you Angela, LifeQuaker, and the starter of this thread

The reason why this works is because you move your desired manifestation away from being a needed thing to something that you just want (for the fun of it). There is MUCH less resistance in something that is just wanted for fun, than there is in something that is needed.
