The Secret Mocked on SNL

Tonight SNL mocked "The Secret on Oprah".

The skit wasn't really all that funny (my personal opinion), but you know something has infiltrated pop culture when it's mocked on Saturday Night Live.

They were discussing it on The View recently too. I was actually pretty shocked to hear them mention it. Cracked me up.

A Chicago Tribune columnist completely bashed the Secret a few days ago, saying its for greedy people who don't want to do hard work. I'm sure he hasn't been within a mile of the book.

I love Oprah and even I thought SNL was worth a laugh or two. All great leaders are targets for ridicule and such. I figured part of the secret to life is taking oneself lightly. Once we master this, we really do know the secret.

Hearing the SNL perspective helped me to see how funny my views might appear to others...which is just fine with me. To each his own.

You would have to be in the middle of the ocean to be a mile away from some sort of 'The Secret' merchandise.

Heh, well as someone who has seen The Secret, understands it, and is fully aware of the power of intent, I think the skit was spot on, and hilarious.

I wonder how many of the thousands of people affected by the genocide in Darfur would agree that if only their outlook was different, their children or husbands would not have been massacred...

I suppose all of those nice Jewish people during the 40's were really asking to be put in ovens on some level as well...

The power of intent, and your ability to manifest if profound, but you are also subject to human limitations. It doesn't free you completely from the affects of the free will that those around you can exercise.

There are those that will disagree, but don't argue with me...go to Darfur and tell them.

I thought it was hysterical, but then again, I'm a comedian myself SNL makes fun of everything. Look at all the actors who are made fun of or better yet, go on there and make fun of themselves. They know its just to get a laugh. Anyone who takes SNL seriously needs to lighten up. In my act I make fun of LOA myself, and I live my life by it.

While I have seen the Secret and know the power of positive intention. I don't claim to be a disciple. With that said, it's important to realize that the Secret was in use by resistence movements against these regimes. A tiny band of Jews (750) in the Warsaw ghettos had a different vision. They believed that they could hold off the heavily armed and well trained Germans. The result was they were able to remarkably hold off the Nazis almost a month.

Before you say "but they lost" realize the Nazis took the entire country of Denmark in just 1 day.

I missed SNL. I don't get offended easily. But, I AM getting a little tired of everyone I know talking about the Secret, like, "hey they were on the radio today and said don't look at fat people and you'll stay thin!"

Hopefully this will be like a "Men are From Mars" thing, where it takes over for awhile and then everyone gets sick and tired of talking about it.

That's not always true. The fact is that the vast majority of mankind does not understand how to consciously use the LOA, thus they are subject to their personal default mode, which is fear, greed, anxiety, etc (which is the LOA in reverse). The fact is that MANY Jews saw the handwriting on the wall and left Germany before the slaughter started. They overcame their fear and had the foresight and guts to leave. The ones who were fearful of change, hoping 'it would pass', stayed and payed the consequences. I'm sure the above holds true in Africa as well. The fact is, if a person is hooked up to the Divine, then they will be led....and if they are led INTO a terrible situation, it's for a purpose in order to help others:

Exactly...but nothing spans all regions all the time, completely. You'll never convince me for instance that every person that died in the World Trade Centers had a soul agreement to pass on that day...no, they were victims of the freewill of a psycho.

I agree completely with your first post, however. I agree that we can do our best and trust that we are good enough in the circumstances we're in for the goals we set. That's the primary aim of the Secret, to build COURAGE and CONFIDENCE in those who have little or no will to take the necessary actions to succeed.

One of my teachers was mocked by another show.. I guess it's a pretty well known person on Comedy Central (lol..I seriously had no idea who he was). Anyways, she thought it was great cuz she thought she wasn't well known enough to be mocked.

She had done a face reading of this guy & well, he found out about it apparently. I agree with those who say, you know you're above the radar if you're mocked on a TV show.
