Just a series of thoughts that I had this morning and am experimenting with. It seems to me that affirmations are effectively a means of installing beliefs, beliefs conducive to the redirection of attention in positive ways. If it is true that we manifest in our lives whatever we give our attention and energy too, then positive beliefs will enable us to manifest our positive destiny in this world. Robert Dilts and others have described beliefs as having a threefold structure... usually, the expressed belief is just the tip of the iceberg... "I am a happy person"... the full belief structure being more complex and fitting in with the whole ecology of beliefs. The typical structure runs something as follows EVIDENCE >cause/effect relationship > EXPRESSED BELIEF > equivelance >MEANING So, as evidence, the belief "I am a happy person" will have ready recollections of times when I feel happy, and as meaning something like "People feel good around me"... the cause effect relationship being discovered by asking questions like "I am a happy person because..." or "I know I am a happy person because...", and the equivalence relationship can be uncovered by asking questions like "Me being a happy person means that...". This way of breaking it down seems to be helping my approach to affirmations... I always struggled with what seemed to me to be a blunderbus effect. Sometimes they worked, sometimes not, and I suspect the not working was down to the belief expressed not actually being fundementally congruent to the rest of my being. A bit hit and miss. By eliciting criteria by which I can evidence the belief and the greater meaning that holding the belief has for me, I somehow seem to bring the belief/affirmation into a position of greater congruence. Seems to be room for experimentation anyhow :-) In love and light Adam |

It's interesting that you should bring this up, because I was talking with a woman today about this very thing. She was slightly opposed to creating a LifeVision (an extended version of affirmations) because she thought it was a little on the edge..(wooowoooo) But we had a great discussion about how to me it's really nothing more than putting what you want to create and BE out there on a daily basis. For most of us...we write down our to do list everyday. It's our LIST of what we want to do....but affirmations (or the LifeVision) includes what we want to create and be. And when we listen/affirm what we want, it's only a matter of time before we begin to believe it. Sure, in the beginning there is all sorts of conflicting emotions....saying you're rich when you're not....saying you're thin when you need to lose 20 lbs....but but affirming it daily...it absolutely changes your belief system over time. Here's a personal example: I'm 43 years old now, but when I was in my teens and early 20's I was painfully shy....in fact, I wouldn't even call a babysitter for my babies until I was in my late 20's...I made my husband do it? It was terrifying and completely and totally out of my comfort zone. Then I created my LifeVision. One line in it said " I am confident". I listened to that affirmation over and over and over (as part of the whole "ideal me") and of course it conflicted with the shy person I really was. But I'd say about 6-8 months later, I wasn't shy anymore. And that I completely credit to the fact that I changed my belief system about myself....I became confident. I have about 20 more examples...but I'll spare you. As a coach, I market affirmations and the LifeVision 50% as a goal accomplisher and 50% as a belief changer. annie |

| Annie, don't spare us. Your examples throughout these forums are great. I've been reading everything I can find about Law of Attraction, Intention/manifestation, etc for a couple years now. I've read so many websites where the authors keep repeating the same old rhetoric such as, "You create your own reality", etc, and while I believe and understand this, I don't put much faith into what they are saying unless they have some personal experiences to share. I find examples of the application of these ideas to be so important and quite rare. So please, keep sharing your examples.
