Default Do you think that "Fate" plays a role in your future, or do YOU have total control?

So... Last year, I thought of this brilliant idea for my future-- a perfect career path that would allow me to have fun, use my creativity and natural strengths, and help me stay true to my "authentic self" for as long as I choose to pursue it. I found a school where I could take a series of classes through the continuing education department to learn everything that I need to know to work in this industry. The prices are reasonable, and this is the only school in the country that offers so many class options in this field.

I also figured out a perfect way for me to relocate and support myself in the meantime without even having to sign a lease on my own apartment (which I can't do, because of my student loan/credit history). I can actually envision myself living in this new place, taking classes, supporting myself, making money, growing closer to what I want to become, and it truly feels like a perfect plan. I want to make this transition more than anything else in the world.

So for the past 7 months, I've been taking relentless action to make this happen. I've been posting ads in the right places, sending a handful of emails day in and day out, writing and re-writing my resume & cover letters, fervently hoping that someone will respond and an opportunity will open up for me... so I can MOVE and make this vision a reality. I've put myself out there and tried to connect with SO many people, so I can secure a job and support myself while I make this shift...

I've been hopelessly optimistic, blocking out people who are discouraging, and using all of my positive energy to stay "emotionally charged" and excited about this. If someone asks me what my plan B is, I say, "I... don't have a plan B. This is what I want, so it has to happen." haha.

But still, when I check my email every morning, it's disappointing. There's always junk mail, and more job alerts, and newsletters, and on the rare occasion: a response from a job that I applied for. But usually: nothing. I've had maybe 5 serious responses over the past few months, but then we ended up playing phone tag, and the job fell through within 24 hours.

It's never really occurred to me to stop looking, or to give up this idea... but last night, I started thinking-- what if I'm not getting the responses I want, because I'm not SUPPOSED to move there? What if fate has me trapped here for a reason? At what point should I start questioning myself and create a plan B?

I'm not really sure what kind of responses I'm looking for here, because I really don't want to hear anyone tell me to quit or to give up this picture of my future that I've been dreaming about for the past year. I still want this, and I still know in my heart that it's a perfect plan.

I guess I just need to know if you think that I should keep trucking forward, and be persistent until I MAKE THIS happen (no matter what)... or if you think that I should surrender to the fact that maybe I'm "supposed" to be here, and I just can't see it yet?

Do you think that "fate" (or God, or some divine source) has any effect on your future... or do you think that YOU have total control over the outcome of your life-- and that if you want something bad enough, it will happen?

It's never stupid to have a plan B, or C, or D, or E, or F. What hurts is to put all your hopes on an delicious cake when you don't have the means to buy the batter, if that makes sense good if not that's why I'm going to explain further.

You want to put energy to do something out there, to get what you want. You even when the opportunity presents itself to take risks and go about doing it. However, even if it doesn't come to pass as you have visualized it, know it will come but it is being delayed for you to work out details within yourself first. Once you are really prepared in every way for it, it will come at you and you will have the choice to stay or to go with it. Fluidity to follow our own dreams while we are caught up in Fate's Stream what intentional manifestation and visualization and even making your life what you want is all about to me personally.

Trip down Memory Lane for your benefit.

My grandfather told me, "Opportunity comes to those who are prepared. So always be ready or you'll miss something good." While I was listening to him he had a commanding presence and he was just an awesome person, so you'd never see his hand as it came right infront of my face and stop. "You weren't ready bubba. Maybe next time." Is all he'd say till the next time he'd try it. Eventually I developed the ability to listen and watch him so I could stop his hand.

Being a Native American Medicine Man, who never claimed he was one but everyone said he was, he would tell me very philosophical things. He talked with me once more before he died about the meaning of what I mentioned above. He said we all go along with what we believe to be proper and whatever others, especially those we love tell us to hold up in our minds and hearts and even our bodies. That's what most people call Fate, God's Will, The Universe's Intelligent Design, Great Spirit and all that hoobla. He even said he could see it as an incrediblely strong cord that pressed onto all of us till the day we die, it even causes us to die but there is no escape.

I remember he looked as if he was in pain because his eyes seemed to be looking away somewhere else and he gave this feeling off as if he was in some sort of confinement. I remember that feeling even to this day and what he said next was. You are like me bubba in that you see the Design and even though neither of us can escape it, we can laugh at it. In laughing, it gives us the strength to please it, and if we please it, it may bend itself to our heart's wish, even for a moment.

I remember he stood up and I handed him his cane and he said, "But always be prepared for the worst. "Opportunity comes to those who are prepared. So always be ready or you'll miss something good." An he cracked me on the left leg with the cane and we both laughed.

Thanks for helping me to remember this, it just poured bank into my memory as I wrote all of this. I owe you an enormous debt Amandaaa. Thank you. His name was David LaughingEagle.

I totally get where you are coming from here. Different situation - but same as well. When do you give up? I don't want to either.

The whole highest good thing gets me. What if it's not really in my highest good and that's why it's not coming? Well I don't care damn it - I want it anyway.

Let's make a deal - you don't give up on yours and I won't either - K?

Default Fate or destiny

Fate is the same for all of us, it is the end result. We are all fated to end up in the same place eventually.

However, destiny is what you are referring to and you have complete control over that.

You need to let go of your dream, forget about it and then it will happen for you. You are too focused on it, you need to relax and allow reality to become fluid and then it can be moulded to your requirements.

Hope this helps

I guess it's like my Lego idea; the bricks will flow into new models if I stop applying white-knuckle-grip energy to maintaining the old ones.

The overwhelming feeling I got when reading your original post is that you have done all the work that is necessary, now you just need to be patient and let it happen according to the timing that will work best for everyone.

While I do believe in a sort of destiny (I believe we set certain parameters for ourselves before we come to Earth, experiences we want to have) I still firmly believe we have free will. I do believe we are guided to certain places at certain times, but we always have the will to resist this guiding.

I know how frustrating it can be to feel like you're on the cusp of something and you're just DYING for it to happen...but if you can change that emotion just a bit and let yourself life in excitement and anticipation because you know you've done all the leg work and you are so ready when the time comes.

Honestly, if you can get to a place in your mind where you tell yourself you've done everything you can, and now it's time to just sit back and appreciate where you are right now, that you can be satisfied with where you are right now, your focus will shift just enough to allow in your heart's true desire.

Default hmmm...

in my situation...when do I need to quit? (I don't want to, but...)

1. I wanted a job abroad, been looking for it for 8 months already, first not really knowing what type of job, but finally last month got to a point where I finally realized WHAT it should look like, so ok I agree I had to fail during these 8 months applying for different types of jobs in order to finally realize WHAT

2. As I don't feel like I'm in the right place now and really want to move, I had a plan B of relocating to another city, but this is plan B, not A

Last month I had a PERFECT OPPORTUNITY finally presented for me and I had a feeling "here, finally all the aiting and learning was for this", applied, went down to 2 candidates out of 100 and... failed

Now

do I keep going in this direction as this maybe a sign that I'm soo close to my desire

or

is this a sign for me to stop and look into plan B?

I don't want to invest any longer in looking as I have no idea when the next opportunity like this or even better will show up, as I might just get stuck here forever (or am I supposed to?)...

I wish I could follow the On the Lark's advice and just let go, but after that refusal my desire became soo much emotionally stronger that I even get headaches..

That's really an amazing story, and I know you asked for the philosophy stuff on fate but I'm gonna give you the life advice first:

Where there's a will, there's a way.

If you've ever listened to someone whose made it in this world, a lot of times they just say things like don't give up, keep trying. That if you want something, you have to go out and get it.

As far as fate, pretty sure we have free will, fate would be something akin to making an incorrect choice in life, destiny being related to the correct choice.

Fulfill your destiny

You can't make anything happen until you stop trying to make things happen. Ya, I know it sounds paradoxical, but that's the best I know so far. Live your life, now, not your future. All else will fall into place.

I think you need to keep working on yourself to raise your vibration. I did this for myself by meditation, exploring "negative" feelings - I discovered alot of thoughts of "unworthiness" that I thought I had overcome. And you need to let go of your intention.

I wanted to move really badly to Madison, WI and work there. Then it seemed like the door was slammed in my face so I "gave up" on the idea. Then all the doors here in my town were closed and way was opened for me to go there - so easily. (Moving there Jan. 27!! Woohoo!!)

You should read my thread - it's amazing. My life changed in a matter of five days. I still am in awe of the power of the universe in my life.

I'm so glad for you! Your first post on that thread was soooo pessimistic you thought about killing yourself! and now it was all to get you back to something you REALLY DEEPLY wanted

I think sometimes such things happen to return us back on the route

I only wish my situation was solved in a matter of 5 days

keep posting on your great change

As usual,LW hits it on head. There is fate and destiny.Just yesterday i was reading Raman maharishi's gospel. He said"you can't escape your fate, but laws of fate apply only to our conscious mind. Not to our spirit".
I have suffered from begaried of fate and i am lost.I have accepted it and even laugh at it.
Maybe you will get job you wanted or you will find yourself in totally different place doing some another work.Who knows?

Hi Amanda,

I would like to bring up a popular example of not giving up. Colonel Sanders.
In his 60's, he wound up broke. Social security wasn't paying the bills so he took to the road to try and sell his chicken recipe. He got turned down over 1000 times. And then suddenly, someone said yes. KFC was born.
What if he'd quit at 999? No KFC, no fortune, no nothing.
If you want tons of examples, look in Hollywood at the A-list stars and directors. James Cameron, director of the two highest grossing movies of all time was a truck driver who dropped out of school.
There's examples of perseverance everywhere. In a couple years, this time of your life might be a distant memory.

-Tim

^Thank you so much. That was very comforting, and exactly what I needed to hear.

^That does seem a little counter-intuitive, since people always say that you should be focused on your goals, and take consistent action to make them materialize… (instead of just being a daydreamer)… but I think I still get what you're saying.

After I posted this, I decided that I just need to step back and take a breather. Maybe I’m not "ready" for this giant leap. Maybe I need to step back and work on becoming more "prepared" before this whole thing will unravel itself for me.

I had a hard time understanding this before, because I feel so pressured to make this happen. I WANT to be living this life NOW, and I've already shared my ideas & plans with everyone...so I feel like: if I don’t go now, people will look at me like I’m full of crap. Like I’m just a "talker," and I never follow through with my plans. (Plus, I’m not getting any younger, so I know that if I want to pursue this career path, I need to get started now!)

...I'm trying to let go of my inner timeline though. (This is still hard for me to grasp, since I’m so used to telling myself, "Now! There’s no time but now!! - but I think I’m slowly starting to understand that you can’t rush things.) It doesn’t matter where everyone else is in their lives-- I just need to stay calm, and work on preparing myself as much as possible, and doing things here to feel more confident and "ready" for this thing to unfold. Then I can resume my mission with a renewed outlook, and hopefully things will feel more fluid and effortless.

Quote:

^That was my exact thought after I started this thread.

I also started thinking that I’m probably stuck here because I haven’t mastered my fears in other areas of my life. I’m still harboring a lot of resistance in other ways… (like with relationships)… so I feel like I need to learn how to let go, go with the flow, truly live in the moment, and open myself up to experiences as they come, (on a day to day basis)... instead of avoiding them and looking towards the future.

*sigh*

I still hope that this comes to me, and I hope that I can clear out my roadblocks and master whatever it is that’s causing the hold-up. Because this really would be (will be?) amazing. I just need to be more patient.

^Deal.

Don't worry; I'm not surrendering. Just taking a breather.

wait, are you talking about me or you here?? hehe this is just what I'm feeling right now! EXACTLY! about being pressured, telling everyone, not getting younger, etc....

how are you going to "prepare", though?
I know I'm having fears of a big change, but I also know that the only way to get rid of them is just GO! so, I'm saying - give me an opportunity and I'll GO! I feel the longer I stay here, the more I become "rooted" and I dont want to forget my dream...
