Seen any movies where there were some cool quotes relating to the theme self improvement/discovery? Star Wars Luke tells Yoda that moving rocks with your mind is one thing but moving a starship out of the swamp is totally different. Yoda says there is no difference, size does not matter. Luke trys and fails, Yoda does it and luke is amazed and says "I don't believe it" and Yoda says "That is why you fail" The Matrix Lots of cool quotes Oracle "Don't worry about the vase" Neo turns and knocks the vase over Neo "how did you know?" Oracle "What"ll bake your noddle later is if I hadn't have told you, would you have still knocked it over" Morpheus in the Dojo "Don't think you can, know you can" And the classic...... Try not to bend the spoon, that's impossible, just realise the truth....there is no spoon......then you'll see it's not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself Share 'em if you got 'em Jeff |

| The Martix Neo "I thought it wasn't real" Morpheus "Your mind makes it real" Neo (grasping the chair) "This isn't real" Morpheus "What is real, how do you define real, if real is what you can see touch taste and smell... Then real is simply electrical impulses interpreted by your brain" Contact (jodi foster) (This is an awesome movie) Jodi "If this we're a sign from god, it would have come in the form of a burning bush or a big booming voice from the sky" Mathew Mcconahay (SP?) "But, a big booming voice from the sky is what you heard... but, There's no reason to take an alarmus stance... Star Wars I think it was the same scene you reffered to jeff Luke "I'll try" (reffering to moving the spaceship) Yoda "Do or Do not, there is no try" |

The Matrix is a very powerful story. People criticise the sequels, but they are just as important if you take the time to try and understand them. Star Wars has many themes, but it got lazy (RoTJ) and stupid (all the prequels) especially trying to relate how being a Jedi was a blood condition Contact was cool, especially at the start with the universe travelling back to Jodie's eye, makes you consider that 'A' (your) universe can exist in a droplet of water. ======================= The Martix Neo "I thought it wasn't real" Morpheus "Your mind makes it real" ======================= Neo "If you die in the Matrix, you die in the real world" Morpheus "The body can't live without the mind" We are reality focused on our bodies, we seem to not realise just how important our minds are, yet we cannot exist without our minds. I totally agree with you on star wars, It's the first three that matter anyway (Chapters 4,5,& 6)... The thing I enjoyed about the matrix, that may be hard to detect... It was an illusion of him going into and out of the matrix... and that at the end when he was laying on the table with the other guy, the lady was talking about his brain waves being as if he was in the matrix, but he was out (supposedly). The matrix has so many levels to understand on is why it's great in my mind... I love contact because it seemed like something was trying to "CONTACT" jodi through out the entire movie (to get her attention)... There is another absolutely great line at the very end of Fear and loathing in las vegas (I wish I could remember it exactly) but when his assistant was getting on to the plane, the line is something to the effect of... "the he goes, one of gods prototypes, to great to (something)... To wierd to mass produce" It's something to that effect... Perhaps someone could refresh my memory...? Although the story has alot of drugs involved, and is alot wierd at times... It's a great movie also. |

Here's a decent site for referring back to get quotes. The quotes aren't exactly right sometimes, but if you review all the quotes for the selected movie, you'll get 95% of what you are looking for. Welcome To Movie Quotes - Repository |

Here are a couple of my favorite quotes relating to self improvement/discovery. It could be argued that they are conflicting opinions. "Inside each and every one of us is our one true authentic swing. Something we was born with. Something that's ours and ours alone. Something that can't be learned. Something that must be remembered." The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000) - Bagger Vance (Will Smith) "It's not who you are underneath, it's what you do that defines you." Batman Begins (2005) - Rachel Dawes (Katie Holmes) I collect meaningful quotes from film and post them daily on Reel Life Wisdom. Lots of other useful quotes there. |

God quotes from Bruce Almighty "That's the problem with people, they're always looking up" God referring to the fact that people look to the heavens or to God to find the answers, but the answers lie within themselves. "A mircle is a single Mom working two jobs and still finding the time to take her kids to soccer" This is about (I think) that everything we get is really a miracle, we're always creating, just because it's ordinary doesn't mean it's not as worthy. "If you want a miracle, be the miracle" We are what we think, think great thoughts and you'll find greatness. Jeff Last edited by judge45; 02-20-2007 at 01:32 AM. |

Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) in Wall Street (directed by oliver stone in 1987): "Greed is good......" Is greed part of human being? I think greed is one of the instrumental factors that contribute to the crash of humankind spirit. |

I've always liked this quote from Dogma: Rufus: He said humanity took a good idea and, like always, built a belief structure on it. Bethany: Having beliefs isn't good? Rufus: I think it's better to have ideas. You can change an idea. Changing a belief is trickier. Life should malleable and progressive; working from idea to idea permits that. Beliefs anchor you to certain points and limit growth; new ideas can't generate. Life becomes stagnant. |

"You can't fight in here! This is the war room!" - Dr. Strangelove Makes me chuckle every time... Good movie for pointing out the absurdities and silly assumptions people make. I love "Matrix", too. Anyone else ever noticed the correlation between "Matrix" and Plato's Cave analogy? In a nutshell, Plato said: what if a person was chained so that they couldn't move and all they ever saw was their own shadow on the wall? Since the person couldn't move, they would completely forget about their own body. As a result they become convinced that they are nothing more than the shadow on the wall - even though they are much, much more. Kinda struck me as a low-tech version of "Matrix." Love the Yoda quotes, too! |

It doesn't have the quotes that the other movies listed have, but it has a great message. Bob Diamond: For example, I use forty-eight percent of my brain. Do you know how much you use? Daniel Miller: Forty... seven? Bob Diamond: [laughs] Three. |

Dorothy: Oh, will you help me? Can you help me? Glinda: You don't need to be helped any longer. You've always had the power to go back to Kansas. Dorothy: I have? Scarecrow: Then why didn't you tell her before? Glinda: Because she wouldn't have believed me. She had to learn it for herself. Wizard of oz (1939) you have to believe for it to work.... |

From I Heart Huckabees "It's all the blanket" -Dustin Hoffman takes a white blanket, drapes it over his hands, and moves his hands to different spots under the blanket saying "this is me...this is you...this is a war...this is the eiffel tower...this is an orgasm...and this is a hammer." He is trying to convey the point that everything is the same even if it's different. Everything is connected. |

I would go of course with: Scarlet: "I can't think about that right now. If I do, I'll go crazy. I'll think about that tomorrow....After all, tomorrow is another day" Maybe a little bit of procrastination, but then as long as you are happy now...:-)) | |

"Ponder that for a while!" - The UC Berkeley Professor from What The #$%@ Do We Know!? "The Power of the Elves can reforge the Sword of Kings... but only You have the Power to wield it." -Elrond to Aragorn, LotR:FotR: Extended Edition DVD That one is special to me because if you think about it, it's like the power of the Subconscious to do anything you want, but you have to be a vibrational match for it, otherwise there is no hope for that desire. "Where's your Beautiful Light now!?" - The Sargeant in The Thin Red Line, to the grave of the enlightened Private who died ready to transition when he drew off a raiding party of Japanese to save his platoon. "I love you, not cuzza your brains or your personality, but cuz you're beautiful!" - Grandpa to Olive in Little Miss Sunshine "TECH SUPPORT!!!!!!!" - Vanilla Sky/Abre Los Ojos (I think) "By Grapthar's Hammer; By the Sons of Warvan; You Shall Be Avenged." - Galaxy Quest ~ David |

I am not one to hold to quotes because there are misleading and always out of context (because the real and big story behind it isn't told or put aside to make a catchy sentence). However I have some quotes I do find valuable, but there are really anchored in the everyday no-believe/reality world. "Needs of the many outweighs the needs of the few or the one" - Star Trek, when Spock (a major character) chooses to sacrifice himself in order to save a spaceship and its crew by switching off a valve in a highly poisonous environment. Mind it says the needs and not the desires. "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst." Self explanatory. Not from a movie but quite valuable (I think I heard it in ST-Ent). "Trust no one" - From X-Files but I learned to appreciate it on the relational level. "You see, señorita, mystery is important. To know everything, to know the whole truth, is dull. There is no magic in that. Magic is not knowing, magic is wondering about what and how and where." - Can you find the source of this one "Three things can not hide for long: the Moon, the Sun and the Truth" And my favourite: "This preciouse and savage life." - I couldn't remember the source for the life of me. |

so cool with all those matrix points and quotes im sure in years to come our kids will be studying the matrix and harry potter in high school english. Two quotes I thought of I hope i got them right star wars - 'do or do not, there is no try' and I think there was something similiar in the karate kid terminator - 'I'll be back' - a professor told me you don't need to be smart to get a PhD, you just need sticktoitiveness. the whole relentless forging forward of the terminator is a bit of a lesson, i use that with Steve's 'do it now' mantra. "It's in your nature to destroy yourselves" Terminator to John Conner, when John asks him if mankind will survive. There's some good lessons we can learn from the terminator, apart from all the killing He has a mission, nothing or no one can change his mission and he will not stop, not slow down and will never quit until he has finished his mission. Imagine what we could get done if we applied a little terminator mentality to our goals Enjoy! Max |
