Default How To Visualize?

I watched The Secret for the first time several days ago and it really struck a chord with me. Since then I've spent the majority of my free time learning all I can about the law of attraction and intention-manifestation. I've spent hours reading various articles authored by Steve.

My problem, let's say, is this: I don't really know how to visualize. When I think of "visualization" I think of seeing a scenario play out in my mind. However, in practice, when I try to visual an event, all I see is blackness. I'm unable to close my eyes and picture in my 'mind's eye' any particular event or object. Once in a while I feel like I can get a sort of broad picture of the idea in my mind but once I start to focus on particulars, I lose it. For example, I could probably visualize the action of walking down the street but it's nearly impossible for me to focus on the details--the ground below me, the sights around me, etc. Either I focus on the action or I focus on the details but I can't seem to do both. Instead, what ends up happening is when I visualize I "speak" in my mind about what I want to happen. For example, if I wanted to visualize, say, booking a cruise online, I can't actually see the event, but what I can do is this: Say/Think to myself, "I log into internet explorer, I pull up carnival.com, I navigate to 'Book A Cruise,' I enter a date and a location....While doing this I feel happy and look forward to actually being in front of the ship [and I try, in addition to thinking about/saying what I feel, I try to feel]...etc" but I can't actually see myself doing it. I can only think/'talk' about doing it.

Is this an acceptable means of "visualizing" an event? If not, how can I actually learn to see what I'm trying to visualize? And how can I keep an eye on the big picture while also visualizing the details?

Thanks everyone. I look forward to your replies.

Justin

Your method will work fine. You may be dominant in other senses. You may have an easier time "visualizing" how it feels, for example.

The other thing that happens when you talk it through, as you have been doing, is that the "vision" will get clearer and clearer, and stronger and stronger, until you will be able to see all the details. It's just practice.

But what you're doing is fine. So long as you are feeling the feelings of having it now, it will benefit you.

Thumbs up Quick comment

Do you ever worry about something? That's negative visualization.

If you can visualize what you don't want, then you can visualize what you do want.

Okay, I have to get back to work

The important thing, to my understanding, is that you feel as if you already have whatever it is you wish to manifest.

The Secret actually mentions several ways to do this. Visualization is merely the easiest and most versatile way of doing it.

Remember the art director Mary Diamond talked to? The guy who had paintings of women that he himself had done hanging around his house?

Do the same!

Paint it

Draw it

Write a script about it

Do some photo manipulation (google "crusie" and paste in a photo of yourself right there on the deck)

Start talking about it to someone who would also like it and get some juice flowing between you about how great it would feel

Write a letter to a friend of what an awesome time you had or how hot your new car is (whatever it is you want to have)

Make a visionboard

Try using relaxing (or upbeat motivational) music and let that guide your visualizations.

Make your outer-reality match what you want - if you want financial abundance decorate your house with symbols of affluence (to me, for example, that would be heavy, draped curtains, nifty silverware and silky fabrics).

There is so much more to it than simply visualizing - it's a question of living in your own reality. A reality of your own choosing. A lifestyle.

On visualisation, I relate a personal experience here. You may find it useful. It is a little on the intense side, though.
