I thought I'd share something interesting that's been happening to me. When I first started using the LoA, I didn't really pay much attention to what my emotions were when I set intentions. I think this has a lot to do with how I discovered the LoA. I found about it from the book "The Secret," which is a great book, but I think it underplays some of the key methods for using I-M. Anyways, I probably would have still been setting positive intentions with negative emotions if I hadn't discovered something. I remember once I really wanted a date with a particular girl. She had rejected and bailed on me several times (I know, I'm stubborn), so I decided to use the LoA. I remember setting the intention a week before, and trying my hardest to be grateful, etc. I asked her on the date, and she agreed. Then on thursday night, before I went to bed, I intended it one more time. I remember that night I had a dream that I was waiting at the place we were going for the date, and I got a call from her. She said something had come up, so she wasn't going to be able to make it. Lo and behold, the next day, she made up an excuse why she couldn't come. That was a bummer, but that's not the key point of this whole thread. The key point is that I was intending that she would go on a date with me, yet my dreams showed me that subconsciously, I was intending rejection. Since intentions are most effectively transmitted in the subconscious, when I would dream, the universe would get my true intentions. This helped me finally get my emotions in the right place when I set my intentions, and started receiving some positive dreams. So if you ever intend something, but in your dreams intend the opposite, you're probably doing something wrong. :P |

Mike, that is awesomely helpful!!! I do sometimes notice a disconnect between my nighttime dreams and my waking intentions, but I never gave it any thought before. It only makes sense that I am holding myself back somewhere if my subconscious is still stuck where I don't want it to be...Now to remove those blocks - I guess the first part of removing them is realizing that they're still there. |

Also, I've noticed ever since starting this I-M stuff, I'll dream about stuff I was thinking of just before I fell asleep. So If I'm worried I'll miss the bus in the morning, I'll dream I missed the bus that night. I think this is because the gap between my conscious and sub-concious is becoming shorter. Before I started all this, my dreams would often be completely random, usually about events that happened months ago. This is a good thing, i think. :P

mike, the more encouragement the better. I've always had a good relationship (if I can call it that) with dreaming, so attempting to 'program' my dreams with pre-sleep intending should come naturally. It also doesn't hurt that this gives me an easier alternative to attempting lucidity. Lightbulb moment - when I get back to journaling I will from now on include my prior night's intention in my record! Last edited by Wax Frog; 11-04-2009 at 11:37 PM. |

I'm actually not sure if these dreams come from my attempts at accessing my subconscious through meditation, etc, or trying to lucid dream... Hmm. Hopefully I get lucid dreaming down pretty soon though, I had one about a month ago. Lol.

Lol, they are. I read a book on this a long time ago, and I was keeping a dream journal every morning but I found I was spending hours every morning writing my dreams down. The reality checks were things like noticing if printed words would start moving, or if the face of a clock would start changing. But then, you notice those things and the dream-fiction takes over and there is always a perfectly good reason why you can't seem to read a page of a book with all the words literally moving all over the page and rearranging themselves. That is frustrating. I read you should do the reality checks while awake so that in the dream state that action is already hard-wired into your mind of what you would typically do. |

Come to think of it, the most "realistic" lucid dreams I think I've had have been during the day when I'm just sitting on the couch and meditating. Like I'll be in the living room, close my eyes, then open my eyes again and black cat will walk in front of me, or someone else will suddenly appear to be in the room with me, but it's the exact same room, and I'm actually alone, and there is no cat. And my eyes are actually still closed.

Unless I'm mistaken we are now straying into "Waxy phobia" territory. So hard to explain, but I used to scare the crud out of myself as a kid by suddenly becoming unable to "see" my thoughts. It took me alot of time, therapy, and reflection to learn to cope. To put this in terms relevant to what you've just posted, I have NEVER been able to visualize so clearly as to then mistake those visuals for (what I take to be) reality! I am not sure whether to fear or envy your experience... brr... Last edited by Wax Frog; 11-04-2009 at 11:57 PM. |

Well when it happens, it's a dream. I guess I'm just so relaxed that my mind is clear and I'm in-between sleep/wake. I'm not visualizing anything, just clearing my mind and breathing, my subconscious makes all the dream imagery for me. So it would be different than a dream I would have if I were in bed and had been asleep for a few hours. It's amazing what our minds can do... I can have difficulty visualizing something while conscious, but in the dream state I can be on other planets that are as real as can be. So it's got to be a thing with our beliefs, if we can create other worlds while asleep we have the ability to access that whenever if we would train ourselves enough. I haven't had a lucid dream for awhile though. Tends to happen when you're always thinking about having one. |

Actually the meditation dream I just described is pretty much as what you said here: Quote:
