Manifesting My Family

I'll try and keep this short, but thought I'd share something I was thinking of this morning. I had never heard of IM or The Secret until last October. But for some reason, a year or so ago, I finally 'decided' to try and find my family. I was adopted at birth and I'm now 44. I knew my mother's name, and her father's name, and possibly my father's....and that's all the info I've ever had. I started on Ancestry.com and before long had a list of names of Aunts and Uncles I've never met. I ordered a copy of my mother's birth certificate, which gave me my grandparent's names. I ordered a copy of my grandfather's SS card, which gave me his parents names. I had this huge folder of names, dates, possible family members, etc, ...and then ran into a brick wall. Couldn't find anything more. One day on another forum I ran across an email from someone who was also looking for their mother, and they mentioned their grandfather's name was something like 'Slogum'. My gfather's nickname was 'Slokum'. Too much of a cooincidence - so I emailed them back and said hey, I think we're related - but realized their original post was a year old already. So I never heard back. I quit for almost a year. I had given up.

Last September I got the itch again and - 'decided' - to look some more - but this time on my 'father's side, since I knew he was still alive. I found a name and address on the Internet for a 'supposed half brother' and I wrote him a letter. Oh boy. I got a very ugly phone call. He was in shock and he said he talked with 'dad' and he said that the story of him being my father was simply not true....(another story here) but yes, he did know my mom. One thing lead to another and he asked if I knew a 'Rhodie'. My mother's name was Rhoda. I said yes, wasn't that mom? He said no - she had another son they nicknamed Rhodie! A brother? Next thing I know I get a phone call from my brother 'Rhodie'. His real name was Danny Jo. I looked in my ancestry folder and sure enough I had a possible 'sibling' listed as a Dana Jo - I thought it was a sister!. I couldn't believe it - I was actually talking with my real brother! We were both in shock! But it doesn't stop there - oh no.

He gave me the phone number for an Aunt. So I call her sight unseen and we talked for over an hour. She couldn't believe all these Underwoods were popping out of the woodwork. Wait a minute....all these? Who else? It seems the rest of us had been wanting to 'find' each other as well.

To make a long story short - I found my only remaining Aunt and Uncle. All the rest have passed on. I am also the proud owner of FOUR brothers and a SISTER! All of us 'knew' we were adopted, but never knew there were others. Now we know - all 6 of us. They all live a long ways from me, so they have had a reunion of sorts twice now. I am hoping to meet them for the first time this Summer. They have called me, emailed me, and sent tons of pictures. Including my very first look at my real mother. I cried. I had never seen her before.

And the email to the other peron looking for their mother? They emailed me back - after a year had gone by! - and they emailed me on my Birthday! They just 'happened' to check the board they posted a question on a year before and saw my reply! He is my cousin. My remaining Aunt's first son that she adopted out. And he just found out he was adopted - he had no idea where to look - at all - and I just happened to pop up on a bboard.

I grew up as an only child, and now have a huge family. Bacause I 'decided' to start looking. I put my intent ou there, and it happened. People have told me the chances of this story really happening are very, very slim. But we did it. I did it. I think I was using IM and not realizing what I was doing. But something worked. And I now have a family to prove it. And my sister looks just like me And we look just like our mom.
