similarly, what is the term for things that you had asked the Universe for and then they occurred? - i'm guessing it would just be the manifestation of the intention?

why do the things of the first variety occur, even if you had never intended them?

Synchronicity would be it. Although it would be like a combination of the above two things; its generally considered like a "pre-manifestation glimpse", like small things happening that should make you think of your intention more strongly, appearing like those meaningful co-incidences, or like an acknowledgement of your "order" by the universe.

Synchronicity is defined as a coincidence of events that seem to be meaningfully related. In LOA, especially when one of the events is a mental image or thought, the “non-mental” event may be considered a type of manifestation, which could be a precursor or meaningful “sign” (or “message”) pointing to a bigger manifestation you’re intending. (Also called an “alpha-reflection” or “harbinger”)

The definition of serendipity is to make a fortunate or opportune or happy discovery by accident, especially while looking for something else entirely unrelated. [The last part is added by Wikipedia & some dictionaries]

So if you’re looking for something in your room and something else shows up which you lost a while back, that’s a happy unexpected find. You may think you weren’t intending finding this, but it’s still a “manifestation” since at one time you wanted to find it and probably still had that intention somewhere down inside.

Or say you’re browsing an unrelated book and get an answer to a problem you had been grappling with recently (but weren’t thinking about now). You weren’t currently intending this, but it was still the manifestation of an intention within you.

But suppose you go to an antique or thrift store looking for clothes, but instead find a perfect object for the home decorating you’re doing… one that goes perfectly with the decor style. You weren’t intending that specific object (nor anything for your home) but you had sort of been intending nice things for the decorating you’re doing.

So most things that are “serendipity” (or “synchronicity”) can usually be traced back to some intention you’ve had somewhere inside you, however nebulous, even though some may seem to be totally unrelated to your thoughts or intentions.
