I've been doing it in the morning ( a short session though), and I've noticed I have much more energy, calmness and alertness throughout the day. Thanks!

If you are new to meditation I hope you don't mind if I give you some unsolicited advice When I first started I made the mistake of trying to get 'out of my body' if you know what I mean. Had a session with my energy healer and she noticed right away that I was disassociated, and only about 25% in my body. You should be more grounded and 100% in your body. I made the mistake of thinking that I would lose my connection if I was more in my body - but you actually need the mix of earth and 'heaven' (for want of a better word) energy, in order to get the right answers. So now I do tree meditation at the start of each session to keep me grounded. This is probably pretty basic for more experienced people - but I know it was a big problem for me when I started.

If I can ask you another question, how do you 'time' yourself? Sometimes I feel as if I've been meditating longer when in fact, 10 minutes have passed. Do your meditations vary in time, you sort of stop when you feel you should? Or you stick do a certain time duration? [/QUOTE]

I don't have a set time per se. I do have a 30 minute entrainment MP3 on my IPOD - but sometimes I stop half way through if I'm not feeling it - and sometimes I keep going long after it finishes. Usually around 20 - 30 minutes though. And sometimes I don't use the MP3 - I alway use earplugs though - eveyone is different but I seem to need them - unless I'm outside at the lake or something. I'm actually the opposite of you - time flies and sometimes an hour has passed and I don't even realize it.

But when I try to do it on my own, then very often I think more time has passed that it actually has. I'm new to this so I'll just try out different ways until I find what suits me best, I guess. Last edited by this is fun; 07-30-2009 at 06:16 PM. Reason: .

am newish to IM and have a story to share. was at the very crowded ikea cafe trying to find a seat for my husband, my baby in a pram and myself. decided to park myself just behind a table of people who looked like they were finishing up and about to leave any time soon. a woman (also looking for a seat) later came and stood next to me, positioning herself even closer to "my" table. [where i live, it's common for people to hang around occupied tables in free-seating eateries, just like waiting in a line; other people also waiting for a seat would normally find other tables to hang around.] i was miffed and thought to myself, "how rude!" but anyways, i got the table in the end and she went to wait behind another table nearby. there were like 6 chairs at my small round table. i had to squeeze them together so i could make space for my pram and a baby chair. "must move these chairs elsewhere", i thought. the next i knew, 2 pairs of hands from the next table were dragging all my extra chairs away, without asking if i needed them and certainly not helping to clear the space out of consideration for me – there were like 7 of them trying to squeeze together at their small table and they needed more chairs. !!!??, i thought, before realising that this was just what i'd wanted – extra chairs gone! and no need to lift a finger! then the woman who had tried to steal my table earlier walked past, and tripped over a wheel of my pram. my baby was by then already transferred onto a baby chair, but the woman felt so bad, she said "sorry" a few times! the funny thing is, i hadn't actually meant them, not in the same way i would constantly focus and repeat the things i really wanted. but made my day anyway. |
