I was just thinking about this a lot in the context of IM. There's another saying that's something like "When you take a step, god responds".

A lot of people seem to think of this as a reason NOT to believe in concepts like IM, because it suggests that it's all in the person's head, and it's just their own actions that are doing all the work, but to me, it supports IM.

I kind of see these ideas as really being about the concept that when we put forth an intention and begin to move our action in that direction, the universe really does start stepping forward and helping us.

This idea further motivates me to take productive action and actively think more positive thoughts. So it's kind of like a self-supporting cycle.

Another quote I really like is "A realist is more correct about things in life than an optimist. But the optimist seems to have more friends and much more fun."
