who controls thought? My ego or consciousness? I have thoughts that I know (or beileve) I control 100%. Now when I write it, I think and write exactly what I want to. I'm here. But sometimes, when my ego finds a moment when I'm not here, it generates a thought that'll generate problems, or bad feelings, or false desires. How can I know which thought is real and which thought is ego-based? |

It's ALL consciousness, including the stuff you call "ego." Thoughts are all equallly real (or rather, they're equally not real) regardless of the "part" of your mind that thinks them. More helpful may to me is questioning your thoughts, rather than believing all of your thoughts as most people do. The question I ask is, "Do I feel good?" When I'm feeling good, I'm thinking thoughts that are working ecologically in my life and in the lives of people around me, and on the planet, and in the universe. If I'm not feeling good, there are thoughts that bear examining and adjusting. And it's interesting that there are no problems or bad feelings that can't be handled or even completely eliminated by adjustment of deliberate thought. At least, I haven't found any so far! And I don't expect to. One thing I've noticed is that people who think about ego all the time tend to feel bad much of the time. Eckhart Tolle said something about that that makes me laugh: Quote:

What makes most sense to me these days is that much of our auto-pilot internal dialogue is actually coming from a parasitic inorganic being that pieces its own mind with ours, making us believe its mind is our mind, thus relegating our real mind to obscurity. These days I see the ego as a survival mechanism gone out of control. It has its uses, but it tends to become an overruling tyrant, choking out everything else. One of the problems with dealing with ego on a conscious level is the ego is used to do so. It would seem the ego becomes tremendously self conscious once it sees what it is doing, assuming it really examines itself. This I would say ultimately is beneficial and enlightening, but tends to be highly traumatic. On the other hand, if what the ego calls ego, is not the ego becoming self-aware, but instead some idea about what ego is which has nothing to do with the actual perceptual mechanism I am dubbing ego, then instead of the ego becoming self-conscious, it continues to become more tyrannical, building edifices of refined interpretation. One thing I enjoy the most is taking a substantial ego hit. I feel like I want to die, like my life is coming to an end. That's the feeling of the king being knocked off his throne. |

One thought leads to another, and another......and on and on, Not necessarily in sequence. What you are and what you think was started long ago and if you do not wake up to the fact that thought creates you will basically 'react' all your life instead of 'pro-act'

I choose to control my thoughts. My thoughts are a cumulation of my habitual old thoughts and thought forms. They are also derived from the mass consciousness to the degree I have allowed myself access to that. I am very glad that outside entities cannot assert themselves into my mind like a virus without my permission. Don't be afraid to punch through your limiting beliefs about what you can be, have, or do. Its you making this happen, and it always has been. Why do I choose to control my thoughts? Today, what I choose to think depends on how I feel. If thoughts do not feel good, I change them to thoughts that do feel good. This leads to more good feelings and good experiences in my life. I highly recommend this approach to your thoughts.... if you're ready that is. Some people are not ready to give up "what is". Most people who have made it to this forum are ready to live their life by their vision of the way they want things to be. |

Practically all thoughts are "data" and not very useful. Data from old memories. Data from old programs and habitual ways of reacting. I clear on anything that has a feeling attached. Clear, clear, clear and go back to zero..... When you are at zero, whatever bubbles up is inspiration. |

Thoughts can be created by a conscious act, or a subconscious act. They pop into our mind bidden or unbidden. Once they do, we can consciously decide what to do with them, act or not act... entertain the thought, or dismiss it.
