I'm sure most people here are at least somewhat familiar with the work of Brian Tracy. Well aside from the almost endless amount of self-improvement material he has released, he released a book a few years back which was a big departure from that. It was called "Something for nothing : the all-consuming desire that turns the American dream into a social nightmare". In it, he lays out the ideas behind (and makes a very compelling case for) conservatism. Then I found out he is on the board of trustees for the Heritage Foundation, the conservative think-tank. Here's my question: Brian Tracy has always emphasized the Law of Attraction. But I have always thought of the LOA as something always viewed as kind of new agey, metaphysical, and those things I tend to associate more with liberals than conservatives. That doesn't make it good or bad, I'm pretty apolitical. But you know, eastern religions, oneness, energy, What tнe #$*! Dө ωΣ (k)πow!?, these kinds of ideas I think are much more associated with liberal thinking. Do you think it is unusual for a staunch conservative like Brian Tracy, who is on the board of trustees of the Heritage Foundation, to be touting the Law of Attraction? Does this lend a bit more credibility to the LOA idea, if there are more well-known conservatives who endorse the LOA theory, so maybe it can't be dismissed as just another "new agey" thing on Oprah? | Yes, I agree. RegisteredUser, truth is just "truth", it's neither right nor left, conservative nor liberal. There are many "love-and-light" liberals who aren't using LoA principles with power and authority in their lives, and there are conservative thinkers who are. There are aspects of conservative thinking which are very empowering...having respect for and belief in an individuals's ability to create happiness & success, for example. And there are liberal thinkers that undermine this by identifying very powerfully with the weakness and easily victimized nature of "the down-trodden". I'm neither conservative nor liberal, so I'm not arguing for either view. But right now there's a general view that liberals are more conscious, and I don't think that's necessarily true.
