OK, metaphor time.

I am looking up at a rock face, and know that I must climb it without any safety equipment. I've asked around in the past for advice on which handhold/s to go for first, let alone other good ones on the way, but for the most part I've been told I have to find them myself. That's all well and good, except that, being basically clueless about rock climbing, I am convinced I will make the wrong choice, fall, and break an ankle. So, here I stand at the bottom, knowing I won't get anywhere while doing so, but at least comfortable in the knowledge that as long as my ankle isn't broken I still have the chance of doing so (and maybe someone will still show up to help).

This is where I'm stuck (or is that just a belief? And is the equipment there, with me just not seeing it?)...

[syncro? - after posting this, I went back to another fave venue and spotted the following as a poster's new sig line: "some people spend all their lives scratching, laboring and climbing and so intent in reaching the summit, that they never bother to notice that they picked the wrong mountain."]

This makes me think of what Steve said in his Leveling Up blog:

"The truth is that no one really knows how to do something new until they’ve done it. Imagine Wayne Gretzky saying, “I wish I could play hockey, but dammit — I just don’t know how.”

No argument with that, I just want to know how the broken-ankle part fits in; is it possible to permanently cut off an avenue by making a misstep or series of missteps? Or is that just egoic fear manipulating me?

I'm not talking crimes or public humiliation or anything of that magnitude, just lame stupid decisions (in retrospect) interspersed with long periods of inaction, and just a hint of fear about such things as "ageism" (I'll be 44 in summer, not exactly a geezer but not an up-and-comer either). I've been around awhile, but not accomplished much "on paper", and am terrified that will be held against me or otherwise be a problem.

Back to the metaphor for a moment - I'm also not confident that I really know how to find handholds that are "right for me". How would I even know them if I found them?

You don't have a broken ankle. You're just holding yourself back from the unknown like everyone else does.

I know that every moment we wonder "if we should" is another moment that we didn't. And when it's over, it's over. You either did or didn't.

Like Yoda said, "Do, or do not. There is no try."

You don't want to be 64 wondering what could have been.

I'm 32 and it's taken me this long to get so disgusted with not taking any sort of action that to not take that action, is actually hurting more than taking the action itself.

The problem is, there is "always tomorrow" and then "always tomorrow" and eventually, we're dead.

Our egos trick us into staying safe by saying there are monsters out there that are going to slay us if we expose ourselves. And those are simply messages from childhood that somehow, there is something is wrong with us.

Those are attitudes of children who did not understand what they were feeling, and had little sense of control over their world. As adults, we have all the control, and can have as much control over our worlds as we choose. Yet we forfeit that because our "inner child" never grew up, and we end up living "quiet lives of desperation".

The cure is choice. Make a decision. I'll tell you one thing, PD is a great resource. But if we use it to lovingly pour over every single detail of our egos and psyche, all it does is reinforce the idea that we need fixing, which is the exact problem in the first place, from all those years ago.

At some point you have to make a choice to just move forward and be willing to not know the outcome. I need to take that advice as well.

You'll know that it's not egoic fear, when you are not afraid, but happy and excited.

Start up when you feel love, not fear. (I got that from Conversations with God. It's simple and direct, and uncomplicated as rules go....) I'm a bit older, and if something doesn't happen the way that I hoped, I trust that since I took the first step out of love that the Universe is, somehow, making it work out for me....

Last year, first day of a vacation with my love, we started out to go to the ocean beach and were hit by a car backing out of a parking space.... We didn't get angry. I wondered, what this meant, but we decided to go with the flow. We went to our local body shop guy instead of going to the beach, and he said that, depending on the accident report.... Long story short, we had a serious problem with one wheel bearing, and we could have lost the wheel while driving high speeds (every day 2 x) if we had not had this little fender bender. We didn't lose a day of work. We had a rental to drive and the other guys insurance paid for everything....

I am not where I imagined I would be, () at this point in my life, but here I am on Steve Pavlina's blog with all you guys, and I'm learning a lot. And, it's a great place to check in to "keep the faith" and if I can reciprocate, I'm happy.

I come here ALOT to keep my spirits up, as it's good to see accounts of the semi-stuck and formerly stuck getting free, with an upbeat tone. The only drawback for me is there's some risk of immersing myself in others' successes so as to block my own (perceived?) failures...

If/when I don't ignore it, the inner voice that likes to tear me down says something like, "Oh sure Waxy, just go out there uninformed, make a stab in the dark. It'll be a stupid dead-end or backfiring decision, just like all the others! Or maybe you'll 'get lucky' and then find yourself in too deep for your qualifications, and so be a bigger, more deeply-sunk fool than before!"

There is always wondering, when the ego is speaking. Pat the ego on the back and stay in the moment. What is it, right this moment, that feels right? What is it, right this moment, that looks attractive to you?

Does that mountain look good? It the sky blue and the sun feels warm, then go for it. If you're feeling fear, and the sky is ominous, then take a look around. Maybe something else looks more attractive. Having a glass of Beaujolais and a bowl of soup might be a better activity on a cloudy, rainy day.... Maybe you're supposed to meet someone at that nearby restaurant....

Another angle to my question. I find myself rotating between the same websites, even when there's nothing much of interest there, because "I don't know where else to go". I have this feeling that there's no site(s) out there that would allow me to move toward whatever dreams I might have in the immediate and reassuring way I need*, or if there are, I'd stumble around feebly with search engines, never finding them because I hadn't the slightest clue where to look.

*or whatever IM compatible term is better

Just found this thread. It brightened my day. Thank you all, especially Magic and Wax Frog, thanks for sharing these synchronicities.

There is something here for me though I'm not sure what yet. Thought I'm getting the clue.

I got it.
It's the solution to a significant barrier.
The connections need not be tangible nor spacially nor temporally contiguous. Synchronicity is available outside of our usual time-space coordinates.

Now I'll be opening up and looking for my own. Thanks again for sharing.

It does its job well. Whatever it takes to keep you from pursuing your dreams and exposing yourself, is what it's gonna do.

That's because you are the one with the answers. You're looking for answers outside of yourself. There's good stuff out there but all it boils down to is teaching you to listen to your own wisdom.

I've been mind-quieting like a mad fiend, but thus far, except for the syncros and a semi-cryptic dream or two, I still look like this -

The urge to worry/panic is deeply rooted.

"Patience, 'Inner Tattoo', patience!"

Lots of plants die by ending up in the wrong spot - too much/little light or water, wrong kind of soil... From outside or inside, this seed just wishes "I" would hurry up already and show it a nice bit of moist warm loam...

the thing is with this stuff...when you tune in...and build faith in the process, you dont need to see the whole staircase...it is unrealitic using LOA with a whole plan! you think...every step, causes consequenses, that sprout off it....how is one ever to know those little steps in advance, when you havnt taken the first step....look at the rock face...you take one step...and from that step you realise...ohh I have alot of options on which peg to use next....so you pick oone...and then you see that that peg, has taken you in a whole different direction than if you had chosen another one.....there is an infinity of options of a particualr way to get to the top....you dont stand at the bottom, devising a specific plan to reach the top...especially when the top is covered in clouds and the top pegs out of veiw...you are trying to do something impossible....

The point, YOU KNOW WITHOUT dOUBT YOU WILL REACH THE TOP.....this is the faith....and this is the thing, that regardess of which particualr steps.....you will get there...this is LOA...if you are never sure...centre your self in the faith of your intention...this is what will cause you to create reaching the top....its everything.....

faith guratntees sucess......thats why i say action irelevant.............faith everything....faith is choosing the reality you want to experiance....build the faith...foundation....and take the first step...and if you think its the wrong step when you have taken it....come back to faith...faith that youve already reached the top, so its not the wrong step....and step again....

You can not balls this process up if you have unwavering faith in your intentions....faith creates...simply.....and fear is not faith...and fear puts you back in your logical mind.....which makes you think like you have to do it all and you have to have the whole plan

there is an art to this stuff...I always tell people dont start walking until your crsytal clear on what you would lilke to create....get a foundasation goin, put an order in...get so clear on it...that you plant it in the universe....if you dont know....make an intention to know...and have faith yet agin, it will come to you.......

once you are clear and have planted...this is your centering that will re organise the universe to pull you toward it...the wheels have been set.....

ths intention and faith in it, is very creative.....your logical mind, will be very much your enemy in this, it is going to not want you to live so loosley, its going to want guareentees...its going to want you to control everything, its going to want the whole plan......and itd definatley its going to say to you...NO ITS TOO DANGEROUS TO LIVE IN FAITH!...... and its where fear and doubt reside...

your welcome....there is so much to be had for you, if you open your mind, have faith it it and allow it in...once you prick your consiouness, the flood gates open and youll be blown away, to the point of complete and utter knowing....if you dont beleive first you will not see.....

dont look so hard..that is your logic saying YOU HAVE TOO..........your logic is saying if I dont look I wont find.....its wanting the plan already! and creating comes from another place.....from within........

I got a big fat tax return today. I've been nervous about it because I wasn't sure I would get one, but I did. And it was also the exact amount that I "wished" for.

On my drive over there I was just envisioning getting the tax return, aligning myself with the universe. I get there and there is a lady waiting in line for her turn to do her taxes. She started talking to me and joked that she was scared, and I kidded with her and said, yeah everyone hates tax time. But it's never as bad as we expect. She said she wasn't sure but she laughed and said she was going to "send positive vibes out into the universe", lol. How could you not take that as a sign?

Also I was thinking about getting one of those GPS things so I can take long road trips and not get lost. When I got to the tax office there was Wired Magazine sitting there, all about GPS.

Everything is tied together.

Yup, like I said. We get these negative views about ourselves in childhood and we take them with us to the grave. The panic is just that kid being scared to be happy.

We are our own worse enemies. You wouldn't tell me to not go after my dreams, I'm sure of that. And I wouldn't tell you to not go after your dreams, either. So if we wouldn't do that to each other, why would we listen to some voice in our head saying to do that to ourselves?

"Don't pursue your goals, Wax. Go to the grave without trying to reach your potential." <---that's abusive. Don't listen to voices that are out to harm you.

Not yet - big surprise huh? Aside from the recovering introvert thing, I indulge a sort of healthy paranoia with my web presence; been on the Net for close to 2 decades, and only about half a dozen of my e-pals in that span have seen/met the man behind the Waxy mask.

Oh, and I would have sworn it was the person in the trenchcoat behind you
