What does boredom mean? What does it mean in presence? When you feel bored, does that mean you're not in the now? This whole week I had no school, so I stayed at home bored. Didn't feel like doing anything due to laziness and procastination. Although, been reading Eckhart Tolle's The New Earth just yesterday. He says that if you cant enjoy the boredom, then just accept it. Observe the feeling of boredom inside you, he says. The ego feeds of boredom, so scare it off by observing the feeling. What does it all mean? I still feel bored |

Here is your contact in the now. I am bored, I seek something to stimulate me, I will post on Stevepavlina.com and someone will respond to my request of boredom. And here we are as you so require. =============== Boredom is a word to describe how your ego hates being in the now. You can't simply observe now because you want to feel something via ego to take you away from the now and project yourself into a future that doesn't exist so you can find something that makes the now more acceptable to your ego. Boredom is a mental/emotional state smack bang in the middle of the emotional/vibrational scale. Below it, you have disinterest, resentment, antagonism, apathy, anger, fear, etc. Above it, you have interest, enthusiasm, joy, etc. So, try to raise your emotional tone by finding something that interests you. Show an interest in boredom itself! As with other states of mind, just be aware of it and don't identify with it. One method devised by Joseph Goldstein in Vipassana meditation is RAIN: Recognize the feeling or state. Accept it. show an Interest in it do Not identify with it It will then pass.

| Sooner or later something happens to knock us out of our boredom. It may be a positive experience, it may be a negative one, but whatever it is, it will be a jolt, a wake up call, a challenge, to make us jump - an opportunity to test our mettle. The question is - will you be ready to meet it? If you feel bored now, see it as an opportunity to gather your strength and to be prepared for whatever comes. A lot of people on these forums talk about creating their reality and manifesting what they want, in an attempt to achieve some kind of happiness on earth, one round of endless fun. The simple fact is - we don't know what's round the corner. We don't know what news the next phone call may bring. We will be tested - that is a certainty. It is not a time for navel staring. Be like a warrior in peacetime who does not forget his fighting skills, who stays keen and fit, ready at a moment's notice to spring into action. Don't become lazy, don't be caught napping. Stay vigilant, stay alert. |

It means, you should make peace with yourself and that you can be independent and enjoy being with you. Try doing something productive like reading your notes every now and then or take a walk around your neighborhood provided that it's safe and reflect on the things that happened to you. ^^, it's like having an alone time to sort things out. You can always right a journal dedicated to you, and visualize talking to yourself in this way. It'll be an active inquiry. Of course you can always eliminate boredom by visualizing and reminiscing the happy moments that came to pass, and imagining a bright and successful future that you wish to accomplish and have space in your life. Think,Question, Imagine and Seek the truth within you. ^^, |

Honestly, I don't understand how anybody who's healthy enough to get around and do anything can possibly be bored for even two seconds, unless you're stuck doing something you find boring, such as having to sit through a certain class or when part of the job is boring. There is such an incredible amount of stuff to do and read and people to talk with and places to go and things to learn . . . where is there any time for boredom? |

Still, it seems there would be a myriad of other things to do/read/see, or places to go right in the near vicinity, or people to talk to, and so on. There has been a sudden outburst of commentary around here about "the ego" which I don't really get, but that's ok. I like my ego. I don't see that as the unconscious part that drives me around doing stuff that's detrimental or confusing to me. That doesn't ring true to me at all, actually.

From my understanding off his work, boredom is ego driven. The negative feeling you get off boredom feeds the ego, so it loves it. Ego is unconciousness, hence youll never know that you(ego) like boredom. Reason why youd stay bored no matter how, conciously, stupid it might seem. Its because you identify yourself through ego, hence allow it to control you and make you bored. You like your ego because its who you are. But is it really? PS. Call me 'judge jr.' me... im lazy and a chronic procastinator. Ego uses this to its advantage to create bad feelings of boredom. If I wasn't bored at the moment and working on a hobby, my ego will tell me why you're not making money...go get a money-making job or you cant buy anything you want. if I try getting a job, it will then say that you better impress the interviewer. LOL oh that ego! It just wont stop.

I wouldn't have an ego if it had no use/function, but I'd still like to 'get past' it; I'm quiet-minding my patoot off to see if that unblocks me. Oh, and my ego would really like some nice fresh 'coe' ice cream straight from W's-CON-s'n

Ego, somehow, thinks it creates (as Judge puts it). And it has self concern, as a result it blocks most of conciousness creations.
