I've read the posts in this forum, and from what I've learned, the number one reason something will not manifest is because you do not believe it can manifest. So, if I could change my beliefs into thinking that I am immortal, or can run faster than a jet can fly, eventually, it would happen. I would become immortal. I would be able to create a sonic boom on my own two feet. The law of attraction sounds very powerful, and I thought it might be fun to see how far I can stretch it. If I could change my beliefs, maybe I could infact sprout wings. Does anyone know how you can change your beliefs?

You change your beliefs the same way you form them, by supporting them with references. For example, if you believe that gravity exists, it's only an idea until you have references to apply to it, like you let go of a ball and it falls to the ground, you realize that we're on a round planet spinning at a fast speed yet we don't go flying off into space etc. These are all references that you might have with regards to gravity. Because you see "proof" that this belief is true in your life quite often, it might be a lot harder to change it then lets say a belief like "I'm so unlucky!" which might be easier. To change a belief like that here's what I do: 1) Write down the belief I want to change. "I am unlucky" 2) Ask myself a whole crapload of questions to question the validity of this belief, like "How do I know I'm unlucky.", "How do I know it's true?", "What if I'm wrong" etc. This will introduce doubt into your old belief. 3) I write down a new belief which is usually the opposite like "I am so lucky! 4) I fill my life with references to show me that my new belief is real. Meaning, whenever an event happens in my life that you would consider lucky I think to myself 'I am so lucky! My wife loves me!" as an example. That's basically it, just keep doing #2 whenever you feel the old belief slipping in, and do #4 as much as you can until the new belief is well conditioned. I wouldn't start with antigravity powers though. You might want to start with some simpler beliefs. |

ticktock, there's a limit to how far you can change your beliefs in any one period. If you walk around believing everyone is judging you and you suck at absolutely everything you can't instantly change to believing the universe loves you and you're a millionaire. Find a belief that's just out of reach for you and work on that, once that becomes possible, keep at it until it becomes imminent, then a reality. Then stretch further. I can't tell you how far you can stretch, that's up to you. It will depend on how open you are, previous successes changing yourself (i.e. belief in yourself to change yourself), and how much energy you devote to it. Is there any particular beliefs you'd like help changing right now? Colm |

Hello, Well, I don't have a belief and then test it to verify it. That is not how I acquire or change my beliefs. I seek information, or come across it, either evaluate it and then believe it, disbelieve it or, frequently, conclude that I am not sure and require more information. Sometimes I will feel something is true, because ... well, it feels true, I just know it is true, but that is a different sort of belief that I have no need to verify in any way, but just act on. (I don't know where those kind come from, it's from within you, something you know, anyway, it can't be acquired from the natural world.) The way to change beliefs, in my experience, is to be open and try new things, experiment to learn, gather information about the issue. You cannot be clinging to the beliefs you have nor have your self-identity tied up in them. Your beliefs change when you are free in your mind and open to experiences and different things and then you learn, observe and see things that are possible, how things transpire, ways other people live and so on, and your own beliefs, thoughts and opinions develop and grow with your expanded experiences and perceptions. If you are rigid-minded and closed off to new things and experiences in your mind, or have your self-identity tied to your beliefs and you don't want to let go of them, your beliefs won't change. |

Robert Dilts has written a couple of books about Belief Change from an NLP perspective I have both and whilst I have attempted to change my own beliefs via these methods, I have had little luck, yet still accept the validity and effectiveness of these methods if they were conducted by a reputable practitioner or I had somebody knowledgeable enough to guide me through the techniques. Personally I believe that the methods are effective as detailed in these books as it just FEELS right and somehow makes sense. Robert Dilts impresses me the most out of all the NLP practitioners that I have read stuff by as he has an infectious warmth and his spiritual side is conveyed in his writings. He just seems the most thorough and yet accessible (John Grinder is also excellent from a theoretical point of view, Bandler is a flake, a very clever flake nonetheless but his writings are vague and he relies on ghost writers and such, like the Connirae Andreas and Steve Andreas) Bandler is in my opinion a troubled genius but his body of work is nonetheless very impressive and I have no doubt that whilst his writings are not my cup of tea, his work and ideas are sound. Sorry, went off topic there Belief Change is hard to do in my opinion. Yes it is easy to change or adapt a minor belief BUT a really hardwired and longstanding self image or belief is in my opinion amazingly difficult to change But that is ONLY my Belief and I hope I am wrong |

Imagine what could happen if you decide to opt for another belief, one that empowers and drives you to achieve greater things in life? For example, belief change is as easy and fast as I allow it to be. Just a twist of words can create a new belief which in turn develops a new mindset that results in a new attitude that kicks you into taking action and thus achieving results! All these can bend bothways. Whichever way is up to you, for you hold the magic wand! That's the power of beliefs! | |

It isn't the fastest way, but the most reliable way to change a belief is through visualisation and affirmations. The problem with the method put forward before about doing research to change your beliefs is that, depending on how entrenched your beliefes are, you will often only find evidence to strengthen your beliefs, as that is what you are attracting into your life. Belief can come before evidence and usually it does. Belief lies in your subconcious mind primarily, not in your concious mind, agreement and disagreement lie in your concious mind. Belief is built by the repetition and reinforcement of ideas -regardless- of facts. e.g. People once very firmly believed the world was flat, most of planet in fact. They then saw only the facts that supported their belief, not the other way around. All of us were programmed with the majority of our beliefs by the people around us when we young. As we grew up more ideas were repeated to us, we accepted and rejected some, and the more we accepted the more they influenced our subconcious into building certain beliefs. One of the other primary ways is through a severe emotional shock. This is unfortunately usually a negative experience (victim of a crime for example) but experiences with positive outcomes can occur (near death experiences). As for the actual sprouting of wings belief. I am curious if it would work myself. It would take a LOT of repetition to break the belief that we don't have wings. Quantum physics would actually say it is -potentially- possible as our thoughts can influence physical matter, but it would require a huge amount of energy I imagine. |

I could do the sprouting wings one. If I imagine it 20 years from now and let them be non-functional, the technique for growing cartillage in the form of an ear on the back of a mouse springs to mind. That should work for wings too! |
