There's a free eBook "The Science of Getting Rich" that describes both the thought and action principles of LoA perfectly (in my opinion, of course).

Could you ask him to compare this eBook's principles to that of The Secret??

Part of the LoA is action.

When you intend something, and believe you will recieve it you act as though you already have it.

As with the (excellent) lotto example, you must sometimes take action to initiate the process to create what you intend.

In my life I have often found that action was foisted upon me to get what I had intended.

I was working as a corporate IT trainer for an international IT company for a while, but I realised that I had learned just about everything I could teaching those same classes over an over. I wanted to keep learning, but I also wanted a few other things...
  1. To keep learning.
  2. To increase my salary
  3. To stop having to wear a suit all day
  4. Easier work
  5. Flexible hours
  6. Variety in my work

However the job was too good to leave. The salary was good, location good, team great, job mostly fun even though tough. I was also the top trainer in the student evaluations, and all the company KPI's and my mananger was grooming me to take over from her.

After I put that intention out, the education dept had a sudden drop in business and were forced to retrench several instructors. However the company has a last in - first out policy for retrenchment. I was the second youngest employee. So despite my top performance I was let go.

But it turned out to be exactly what I intended.
I got a $15,000 payout, got to leave while still maintaining good relations with the company and I then walked straight into a new job which gave me exactly what I asked for above. But I had been forced into action by my intention.

The same thing happened when I decided I wanted to live in Japan. I got an out of the blue phone call from my friend who was living here at the time offering me his apartment and furniture if I moved to Japan in 3 weeks. I made it in 2.5.

My other forced into action one was with a house. I was living with a roomate from hell, but the house was too good to give up. But I was losing so much energy in conflicts with him that I was stuggling to keep my development up. I wanted to live by myself but I couldn't afford it at the time, (you often need to pay about 6 months rent in advance in Japan) and I wanted to get away from this person but felt like I couldn't leave the house.

But just as I was in the process of changing jobs, we had a big argument. He went and said something to the landlord and got me evicted. I still to this day don't know what he said because the land lord wouldn't speak to me.

Anyway, the new company hearing about my situation offered to help me secure a new house. Lower rent, better location, by myself, great size. Better in every respect than the one I left. But I had been forced to take the action required.

I could also list several dozen examples where I chose the action, but the bottom line is action is required. However as pointed out by Bob Doyle I think in The Secret (paraphrased, but possibly a correct quote, as I use thsi in my classes) :
Quote:
Action will sometimes be required, but if it is in line with what the universe is trying to deliver it's going to feel joyous, your going to feel so alive, you could do it all day.
I live my life by the LoA now, and it hasn't let me down yet. Everything I have written down and focussed upon I have gotten.

Great post Dani. Explains a lot. I agree that many actions we end up taking are foisted on us, as in arranged by the Law of attraction, as very often it isn't an idea we would have thought would move us in the direction of anything we wanted, and yet, in the end, it is exactly what was needed to get us to where we needed to go in order to take us in the direction of our desires.

Thanks Dorothy,

The reason sometimes that seemingly unpleasant things get forced onto us I believe is that we generally cling too tightly to what we have.

Most people are afraid to let go of what they have until the know for sure that the have something better lined up.

e.g. no matter how much they hate their job they won't quit until they find a new one first. Same with partners, houses etc.

But life and LOA usually works by filling vaccums, not by piling new good things onto you and letting the old one pop out the bottom.

We have to let go of the old -before- we can get the new and improved. If we don't do it willingly and our intention is strong enough, then I think the universe will force our hand.

Those experiences of loss are only made painful because we are trying to hold onto what we lost. If we can just let it go as a part fo the journey we no longer need, our lives are much more pleasant and move ahead much, much faster.

All of my best upgrades in life, jobs, houses, partners etc. came when I left the previous one (willingly or unwillingly) before finding, or often even trying to find, a new one. I always found what I was truly looking for at the time and it was exactly what I wanted.

This action of letting go and taking the first step is what pushes us forward. Holding onto what we have causes us to stagnate. But uh I think I got off topic ... sorry Steve.

Its great to see some of the Intention Manifestation and Law of Attraction people actually stressing that there is a lot of hard work involved in making intentions become reality. The stereotype I had gotten from the professional speaker types is that all your have to do in make intentions and they manifest themselves. Though the whole concept probably isn't as appealing to suckers when you throw in the hard work part. I suspect that's why the infomercial types are keen to leave it out.

Intend, yes. But taking some action is often required too.
That's like the quote from Pursuit of Happyness.

"There's this man drowning. A bull comes up to him and ask if he needs any help. The man says, "No, I'm waiting for God to save me. Another bull comes up to him and asks him if he needs help. The man says, "No thanks, I'm waiting for God to save me". Finally the man drowns and goes to Heaven. He asks God why he didn't save him. God says, "I sent you two bulls, you dummy!"

I told that same story in one of my blog entries, but it wasn't a bull, it was a boat and a helicopter that come to save a man on his roof during a flood. Same story though, same point.

The book that inspired Rhonda Byrne to make the secret was in fact, "The Science of Getting Rich," by Wallace Wattles.

She talks about it on the directors commentary on the original version of The Secret (and in the book version too).

Happy manifesting!

All the so called hard work isn't really all that hard. Especially when it is inspired action. Any part that may have discomfort to it, is only temporary, like mentioned in threads above. We cause the discomfort feeling as we are refusing to receive the very thing the Universe is giving us, which turns out to be exactly what we kept intending.

Like the above threads mentioned. Let go. It's like that saying, "Let go and let God".

I don't mind the infomercial style parts of the secret movie, as I am well aware, the majority of infomercials, although they are, indeed trying to sell you something, it's not snake-oil. Usually the information they are giving out is acurate, and true. I don't mind good information. And all the information in the movie was right on.

Like the Abraham-Hicks books. I am not really facinated by "channeling", etc, but if the info. is good, I'll accept it. And if it's useful to me, I'll use it.
