OK people and now something completely different and new - in a totally "Monty Python's Flying Circus" Monty Python - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia style! I have a very loud dog. She barks at any sound that she does not like. I adore her but she gets on everybody's nerves with her barking! Any ideas on how do I manifest her being quiet and still keep her perky doginess? My dog had to be trained *to* bark (I live in a bad neighborhood and we WANTED the neighbors to know we had a dog). If you can train your dog to bark at everything, you can train them not to. There's better methods out there than aversives (such as shock collars)/negative reinforcement. Dogs eventually start tolerating aversives (also known as "leather butt syndrome") and get even worse behaved. One thing is you don't want to yell at her. If you do, you're barking back. Yelling is attention. Don't reward bad behaviors with attention of any kind. But there's plenty of info out there about dog training, google is your friend, good luck to you.

I have no problem in training dogs. I did with a Rottweiler. This is a brown Poodle. They bark as a way of existence. This is what they are. I am asking for am IM way!? Any ideas?

Hey, I have a cat that hates to sit on anyone's lap or being picked up... Occasionally I'll have the thought, "wouldn't it be nice if she just came over and sat in my lap" then forget about it. Usually the next day or two she makes the trip over to sit on my lap... I'm amazed every time it happens... |

What do you mean "IM way"? This sounds to me, that you are waiting for "miracles", just for the miracles sake. This thread COULD be the IM way And obviously, you do have "problems" with training dogs, if you ask help with training dogs. |

I would try that method. It's a bit much to type out here though. It's an excellent book anyways, so I suggest you pick it up even if it doesn't end up helping with the dog. It belongs on the bookshelf of any serious LoA practitioner IMO.

I'm probably overdoing the look-at-Christine-Kane's-blog bit today, but to be fair, she's got posts about this (and she is the one through whom I found Pavlina's blog). Do You Create Your Pet’s Behavior? | Christine Kane |

It might be hard to simply tell a different story about the yapping pup... I've been trying to "tell a different" story about this cat of my daughter's. I mean, I figured all tom cats get fat & lazy once they are neutered. He's of the age when most toms prefer to sleep 23.5 hours per day. Not this guy - about once a day he acts as if he's swallowed 3 cups of high octane espresso. I have a torn up couch, recliner, and scratch marks on every cabinet within reach, as he is insistent that all cabinet doors be left open for him to explore (and slap around anything that catches his eye). es, I have plenty of cat posts he can use, but he won't use them. He only begins acting this way when I am working on writing or setting up to do a shoot - which includes time to swing from the canvas backdrop. Then he walks around the place whining. |

Reacting to stuff feeds energy into it to keep it alive and to continue. Ego's love to react, have an opinion, get upset etc. Most of this blocks manifestation. You could think about your dog not barking, but why not try and just observe your dog barking without reacting to it. See what happens. Judge |
