Hi all. I'm reading "Ask and it's Given" at the moment, and I'm coming across the word "vibration" alot. Being someone who's into New Age stuff, I've come across "vibration" used in this context before. I think I understand what they're talking about when they say vibration - for those of you who haven't read the book they use the analogy of a radio station when describing how I-M works. They say that to experience what you want to experience, your "vibration" must match the vibration of that which you wish to experience. When your vibrations don't match, no manifestation. For example, if you want to listen to 105.3 FM, you won't get 105.3 if you tune into 97.3 FM. In the same way, if what you want is a new car, you won't manifest a new car if you're focusing on how crappy your old car is. As I said I understand this analogy, but why use the word "vibration"? When I think of vibration I think of physical objects moving very quickly, I don't think of the process of guiding your thoughts. |

Hi, Scientists once thought that the smallest particle that could exist was the atom, and we were a collection of atoms held together. They then discovered that the atom was made up of protons, neutrons and electrons and these were then considered the smallest particles. They then discovered that these were made up of even smaller particles called quarks, but don't know what these are made up of. The are considered to be the foundation particles and according to string theory are made up of vibrational modes. So yes, as physical beings we are vibrating and made up of energy. So what has this got to do with our thoughts? Every thought carries with it a certain type of energy frequency. Changes to your thoughts can change the frequency that you give out. If you have a dominant frequency, or blocked energy pathways, that will have an effect on your physical body. You can change the energy frequency in an instant just by changing your thoughts, however in some cases it may take longer for the physcial body to respond to the changes in frequency and heal. The reason for using the word vibration, is because that is what essentially everything is. Every thing you see, touch and are made of is vibrating. Just as an add on: If you would like to see an example of how different thoughts affect our bodies have a look at this article. By changing a thought / emotion, there are physical changes to the blood cells. Clear evidence that our emotions affect our body--in this case, dramatic changes in the blood |

I find the logic behind these statements to be ridiculous and I totally reject all of the "vibrations" stuff. It's not my game. The universe isn't a person. I am a person. People, specifically humans, project "vibrations" and meaning and intelligence throughout the world. What's this mean? I trip over a rock and I say, "Blah!! Stop tormenting me rock! Have you no humility?" And what does the rock say? Exactly. The whole concept of quantum physics gets totally misconstued with many spiritual and new age presuppositions like the universe is an intelligent being and everything is unified. I question these beliefs. I made some more comments about the law of attraction on my blog, the link is below in my signature. Please let me know if you have any more comments, and I'd love to hear from others about this, specifically those who really beleive this idea because it's totally possible that I don't understand it correctly.

In a strictly scientific sense, Fox, "matter" is nothing more than clumps of energy (in varying density) vibrating at different rates. You don't have to think of it in terms of new-agey hoo-ha. Google 'String Theory' and you'll see that the world's best scientists all agree on this... Now, there are many 'String Theories' but they basically all come down to tiny little vibrating strands of energy that make up everything. NewAgers/IMers and amateur Quantum dabblers (like myself) like to speculate on how this all translates to the macro level. In other words, if everything is made up of vibrations, can we harness this to make ourselves richer, happier, more sexually satisfied, etc. |

And I think your claims that "all the worlds best scientists all agree on this" is pretty speculative. Regardless, our "vibrational" level has no influence on others around us, its OUR PSYCHOLOGY!!! that does!! There is some solid truth in that idea, that constantly and positively thinking about our goals will help us achieve them and see them as possibilities in our reality. I totally agree w/ LoA but I think the idea of "vibration" to be pretty hokey.
