Because I don't believe that market crashes necessarily hurt or benefit anyone any more or any less than market booms. Booms and crashes are part of the same cycle; one MUST follow the other; and neither can exist without the other. They are like yin and yang. And in case you do not believe me when I say that people can benefit from crashes, well, you can read this post of mine. And also this post. And yes, market booms can hurt as well as help people too. Simple example: when times are good, more people choose to eat at expensive, high-end restaurants - therefore cheap dining places suffer. When times are good, people buy more brand new stuff; therefore secondhand retailers suffer. Etc etc. Where you want to be, as an individual, is in the right place and time for a crash, if a crash is coming; and the right time and place for a boom, if a boom is coming. Not sure why you're asking, but ... My official day begins at 9 am and ends at 6 pm. On average, I'd say I usually come in around 9:20 am and leave around 7:20 pm. I work five days a week. So my number of weekly hours is about 50. Not sure how this compares with the lifestyles in other countries ... I used to work longer hours in previous jobs, but I've left that behind me and moved on. Last edited by Acting Like Godot; 12-08-2008 at 01:25 AM. |

I think I definitely did miss a day or two. It's not that I got lazy, it's really more that I got stuck on a LOA-related exercise and I couldn't get through it. I'll just treat today as my Day 17, continuing from where I left off. Today I did plain meditation for some time, and then I decided to visit a memory. Without sharing too many details, I re-created in 3D a certain place in my mind, which is quite dear to me. Then in my mind I went walking all around the place, to see all my old friends there, most of whom I've now lost touch with, for more than 10 years now. Very nostalgic, very poignant, a couple of tears rolled out of my eyes. Silly me. A sudden realisation that your average day is filled with so many small yet beautiful moments. This is how life happens, and if you don't really pay attention, many of them will just pass by unnoticed. Gotta do that "presence in the moment" thing, more often. * * * * * * * I ended this manifestation, with a little magickal spell. For this spell, I chose one particular friend, S, from this place that I had visited. I'm very fond of S, I somehow had always regarded her as a younger sister of mine (even though, uhh, she'd never pass as my sister, her skin colour is quite different). The last time I met S was about 8 years ago. I heard later that she'd left my country for good, and had returned to her home country (she was a foreigner). I don't have her contact details. I can't even google her name, because I can't remember what her last name is (she is Indian, and had a very long, difficult-to-remember last name). Anyway, I have cast a magickal spell for S to contact me. I'd like to talk to her again, see how she is doing now. Maybe she will suddenly email me; maybe I will bump into her while I'm walking down the street; maybe I'll meet someone who actually knows where S is now. I don't know. The spell is cast, so it must happen. For those interested in magick, the spell involves a visualisation that includes the air element (for communication) and the colour green (for emotions). |

| From this book - "Instant Magick", by Chris Penczak. It pretty much explains magick from first principles (which incidentally also shows you that LOA is a form of magick). It then examines various different magickal systems from around the world eg involving colours, elements, the Kabbalah, deities, crystals, shamanism, angels, astrology etc etc and then explains their interrelationships. Once you kinda understand the broad idea, it's up to you to mix and match the systems to create what you like. Not everyone will be partial to all the systems, so you can use the systems that you have an affinity for. |

So I got around to completing (kind of, anyway) the LOA exercise that has been holding me up. Essentially I feel that I'm having difficulty with so many different intentions at the same time. So with pen and paper and a lot of doodling, I've tried to work out which are the intentions I'd like to focus on for the time being. I've worked out a list of my top 10 intentions. No magic in that number, I just don't want too many or too few intentions, 10 feels about right to me. This list will change over time; I expect to review it every month or so. From time to time, some intentions will be removed (eg because they have been achieved, or because I've lost interest or given up or decided to alter them) and some new intentions will be added, to keep the total number at 10. Majority of these intentions are not intentions on which I'll just think and think and not do anything. I will be taking action too, and recording the steps I take, in my personal LOA blog, AND of course, using the LOA on these intentions. For those interested, here's my current list of 10 intentions. |

Well, the job security thing really hit home for me this morning. Someone in my immediate team got cut. My immediate team has only 7 people (or rather, 6 now). In classic bank style, he was given immediate notice. Escorted straight out of the building and his security pass, login passwords etc etc were immediately disabled. This is standard bank procedure, to protect confidential info, but it's quite brutal on the poor guy. Actually I never saw the guy at all this morning. By the time I got to office, he was gone. On the positive side, the rest of my immediate team is safe for now (I guess ... that's what my boss's boss told me anyway). |

I hadn't had time to write about my Day 18 manifestation (which I did early yesterday morning). I thought I'd try something interesting. I manifested for a "pleasant surprise, to come really quick". I felt this would be an interesting intention to try, because effectively you would bypass all the doubts, limiting beliefs etc that you might otherwise have, if you had an intention with specific subject matter. Anyway, after that I went to work. And there was indeed a big surprise - my colleague A getting retrenched in double-quick time. It did not feel pleasant to me at all, though. Wonder if somehow the universe picked up on "surprise" but missed the "pleasant" part. |

Well, the pleasant surprise just arrived. Not a BIG thing, but pleasant anyway. A month ago, I signed up for a dining programme membership. Basically I pay a certain fee, and for one year, I get to enjoy assorted discounts at a certain number of restaurants. Anyway, the salesperson said that if I provide my friends' names and telephone numbers, and 5 of them also sign up, the salesperson will give me one additional free membership card (which my wife can use). So I just got a phone call. Five of my friends have signed up, so my wife will get one free membership card. |

Really tough day at work. I am involved in handling a dispute between my bank and the government of an entire damned COUNTRY. There's a lot of heavy-duty politics in this. This particular matter is huge, and frankly if it goes the wrong way, it might just drag on for a couple of years. I am just one of many guys at our bank, handling some part of this very complicated matter. Still I guess one could say that if I get really deeply involved in this, it does provide some degree of job security for me. I think my Day 1 Manifestation is coming along fine. |

Have been working very intensively. Stayed up till 2 am and got up at 6 am to continue. I think I really did manifest this situation (the work involving a dispute between my bank and a sovereign country). I really got sucked into it by accident. There had been a situation. One member of my immediate team was working on it. Then he went on leave. He asked me to look at it. Right before he went on leave, the situation got messier and messier. Now I am in the thick of it, and I literally have colleagues all around the world working on it too. They are in four major financial centres (London, New York, Singapore and Hong Kong) and that particular sovereign country itself (which I cannot name). And soon a fifth major financial centre will be drawn into the story (Frankfurt). So in the past two days I have worked hard on one aspect of the problem; and we have dealt successfully with that one aspect. I have won praise for my skilful handling of it; and everyone thinks it's because I am smart, logical, sharp, experienced etc. They do not know that I used the Silva Method to subjectively communicate with the warring factions within the bank; sense their thoughts; and get them to focus on our common interests. In this way, I quelled the bank's internal politicking across five countries and successfully closed off one aspect of this matter yesterday. In fact, I mentally told one chap to step out of the picture, and leave the others alone to settle stuff. The chap suddenly took half a day's leave yesterday, right in the midst of all the confusioon, and brought his wife and kid to go watch a movie in the afternoon. This is not the first time I have used the Silva Method subjective communication method, to get things done at work. I just have not done it on such a big scale before. It's fun. |

Well, I've failed to keep to my own 30-day challenge. Missed a couple of days here and there, due to being busy at work. I'll just treat the past few days as my collective Day 19, and continue towards a Day 30. It's not that I've not done any LOA stuff in the past few days .... but the efforts were somewhat scattered and didn't have that much focus and concentration behind them. I did a little meditation yesterday evening. Unfortunately my domestic conditions nowadays are not terribly conducive for meditation, as I have two boisterous little kids who like to climb all over Daddy. So the meditation was short (and interrupted) - sigh. Later last night, I did another mind exercise. The way I planned to do this was to meditate, go to alpha and then describe every aspect of of my current life to myself in the most positive terms possible (think of this as a gigantic NLP reframing or gratitude exercise). I did not get very far with this exercise. As a matter of fact, I kinda stalled when I hit Point 2 - which was "My Family". When I really meditated on this topic, I felt so very grateful and blessed that there was nothing else to think about. It was a bit mind-trippy. I felt some kind of primeval connection to the ancient human experience of raising a family. Ok very hard to explain, so I shan't bother. This morning, I woke up early and went jogging again. I do consider jogging as a LOA exercise for myself, even if I do not use the time to think about my intentions and goals. Running helps to eat up excess nervous energy; and excess nervous energy is what leads to stress, irritation and tension. In other words, running helps me to maintain a more-positive emotional state, and that's why I consider running as a LOA exercise in itself. |

The scheme was abolished in late 2007, but still applies to property purchases that were made prior to that (including new homes that are still under construction and will be completed only in 2009 or 2010). Anyway, the data was surprising to many, and some are saying that it's going to lead to our country's own version of the US subprime. (Before Dan Linehan leaps in with comments about evil banks, I should add that the scheme in question has nothing to do with banks. Anyway, it looks like the property market is all set to plunge further. | |

It looks like you work 10 hours a day, 5 days a week. Why not use LoA so you won't have to work so much? Unless you enjoy working that is. Wouldn't it be nicer to spend all that extra time meditating, playing with your kids, visiting new places, picking up new hobbies and talents, etc? Just an idea. |

I'm ending my 30-day challenge early, right here. It might not look like much to you, but personally it has given me a lot of food for thought on how the LOA works and how to use it. The notable successful manifestations were: (a) the intention to become a good speaker. This manifested rapidly and in an unexpected way, leading me to win a prize within days, for making the best speech at a party. (b) the intention to manifest $20,000 (which some other people on this forum were all doing at the same time). It led to a bank offering to absorb $23,000+ worth of interest, on a property that I'm considering buying. (c) the unexpected discovery of another property (not the one mentioned above) in a neighbourhood that I had already scrutinised many times before. This property fitted very closely the kind of home that my wife and I have been manifesting for. (d) the intention to manifest more job security. It led to three significant projects falling into my lap at work. All these projects are 'financial-crisis-proof' because they are directly related to dealing with problems caused by the financial crisis itself. This month, someone in my immediate team was retrenched. It shocked me then. In retrospect, I see that his retrenchment actually gives me further job security. Since my team has already been cut, any further cuts are likely to happen to other teams, not mine. (e) the intention to receive a "pleasant surprise". It happened on the same day that I manifested. I received a call to say that I would be given a extra free card which grants dining privileges at a selection of great restaurants. This is a card that some people ordinarily pay $400+ to get. --- I have manifested for a promotion and bonus in February. We'll see how that goes ... There are a couple of other loose ends. May tidy up later. |
