Last night, something interesting happened. I had insomnia for the first time in a month, since I started following Steve's getting-up-early post and waking up at 8am every morning. While I was lying in bed totally un-sleepy, I entered a strange mentalstate. I was very horny, and my thoughts became bent very intensely on things I long for, but neither the horniness nor the longing was in a frustrated or "grasping" way. It was almost more like a physical hunger, which I was able to observe impassionately with no emotional attachment at all. Although I was longing very heart-wrenchingly for certain things, there was no self-pity, no negative emotions at all. Suddenly, I had a realization, and I somehow "knew" that I was in "gnosis", the state that chaos wizards talk about, the state in which thoughts are imbued most strongly with magic. Now, I put "knew" in quotation marks, because looking back on it now, I can't see how on earth I came to that bizarre conclusion. There's absolutely no justifying it logically now, but at the time, I was absolutely certain of it. Like how you can be absolutely certain of the most ludicrous things while you're dreaming. But I'm sure I was still awake. So I started thinking positive affirmations. I felt a certain joy in my confidence that because of the gnosis-charged affirmations, the things I was longing for would become inevitable. This continued for some unknown amount of time until I finally drifted off. Now there are two other interesting things I should say. 1. Try as I might, I have *NO* recollection exactly what I was longing for last night (besides general sexual release). I remember longing for these things, but I don't remember what they actually were! Neither can I remember what positive affirmations I started thinking when I had my "realization". It's all blank. I can remember other details perfectly, but when I try to remember what I longed for or what I affirmed, there's nothing. 2. Today, because of the insomnia I slept in til 9, but that still amounts to very little sleep. Nonetheless, the whole day I've had tons of energy, even to this very moment (and it's past my usual bedtime as I type this). What's more, today was a really good day all throughout. I shouldn't go into details, but suffice it to say some things I normally affirm in my daily affirms, came to me today quite effortlessly. So, what do you guys think? It's a very interesting situation and quite honestly, I wouldn't mind if it happens again!

Not sure who the chaos wizards were. Gnostics were an early mystical Christian sect. Gnosis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Gnosticism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

I thought the people on this forum were generally at least aware of chaos magic because I could swear I've seen it discussed here before. Chaos magic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Chaos magic#The gnostic state - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Even among the Chaos clan there are debates as to exactly what gnosis is. My opinion is that it occurs when you reach a predominately theta brain wave state while awake and fully conscious. That's just my opinion, based on personal experience, a lot of reading and some guessing. I have several books on "chaos magick" which is just a cool way to say, eclectic approach. They borrow from many traditions and change beliefs like most people change clothes. The "magick" is strictly results oriented.

Different labels, same thing. You can call it "alpha"; "theta"; "meditative"; "gnosis"; "hypnotic trance" etc etc. Whatever. It's the state you want to get to, to do your magick / positive affirmations / Silva Method / LOA / IM / creative visualisation / hypnosis / prayer. |

The concept of gnosis predates "chaos magic" by thousands of years. Gnosis refers to direct personal experience of core spiritual truth. Gnosis refers to transcent realms, spiritual essence. It's far beyond mere thinking and desiring and the usual self-indulgence. Nice you had a happy experience. While I'm sure a person can experience gnosis while lying awake horny in bed, be careful about inflating an ordinary euphoric experience into a major cosmic revelation. |

The term "gnosis" as far as chaos magick is concerned is not the same as Websters definition. Peter Carrol has described it as a state of "no-mind" or nether nether mind. Deepak Chopra and Wayne dyer call this state "the gap" , it is not merely visualizing or a light trance like you experience when alpha waves are the dominate brain wave, it is a distinct and noticeable change in consciousness and if you aren't sure, you weren't there. My best description is that it is like being in a huge cavern or auditorium and it being perfectly quiet, your outer senses will have shut down to the point that you can't hear anything going on around you, the sense of quietness actually occurs because you have quit "thinking" altogether. The reason this state is so highly sought is that any seed planted in this fertile ground, which is devoid of all other thought, is sure to grow, it's not 'if', it's when. If visualizing, affirmations, and vision boards are the road to manifestation this "place of potential becoming" is the Autobahn. Most people will live their whole life and never see it.
