Exclamation urgent help for orthodontal problem!!!!!

so today i was told that when i get my braces off (already been over 2 painful years of hassle) they'll along with a retainer put in certain wires, and also a wire that they say they'll leave in permanently b/c they want to avoid shifting of teeth (pointless for a retainer then)

that news startled me it was discouraging! i dont want to spend life wearing a dumb piece of wire in my mouth all the time when other people can have good teeth without such painstaking tools!!!!
of course, she said that if i ever want it removed, i can do so....but

would using techniques such as mind to change body help so that i can create a new conscious/subconscious belief that my teeth will remain in their new fixed position (without shifting again)? b/c i definetaly DO NOT want to stay stuck with a wire fixated in my mouth forever! its just too self-patronizing!

I'd get a second opinion if I were you. I wouldn't want to have a wire permanently installed, either. It doesn't seem right that that would be your only option.

bmlyeryk,
I agree with angela... Get a second opinion...

Let's imagine for a moment that you go and get a second opinion... But, the new opinion is just the opposite of what you've been told by the first dentist... Who's right then...?

The point I'm trying to make here is that, the "right" dentist is the one you choose to believe... Both dentists are correct in their diagnosis and what they told you... Why? Because they believe that what they told you was the correct coarse of action...

It comes down to if you believe them or not...

I had to have it too, it's normal. You don't want your teeth to go back to how they were originally after a few months do you?
I had mine removed because of allergy, but I still have to wear a night retainer.
The tiny wire they'll put in you won't notice much trust me, and other people won't notice it either. It won't disturb your eating either. It's for the best, really it is. Just imagine your dashing smile!

I was supposed to wear a retainer. I didn't, and now, not only are my bottom front teeth jacked up a little bit, but the gum underneath one of them is receding. I wish I had gotten a permanent retainer now, for sure.

Lots of people can't even afford proper dental work, let alone braces -- why are you so worried about a wire?

I agree. I thought everyone was supposed to get a wire on the back of their teeth after braces. Everyone I know did. I have had mine in for 10 years and have hardly given it a thought. No one else can see it and I don't really notice it. They told me I could get it out in my twenties if I wanted to, but so far I have just chosen to leave it alone. I am grateful for my straight teeth.

There's always another way. I had my teeth straightened in ten months using isometric exercise, of all things. It worked!

Really? How did that work? Can I use it to take care of my pesky wisdom teeth that I've been avoiding, heh

I totally wish they would have put a perminant one in my mouth, I could never wear the removable retainer, as I hate things in my mouth, so I never wore it. I wish they would have put in an unremovable one at least for a few years! My teeth still look ok but not as good as when I got the braces off.

I say get it now and take it off in 5-10 years, its worth it!
