Question how do you know your guide?

hi! i noticed that some people talk about talking to their "guides" while meditating, but i never read anything about how to know spiritual guides etc.

offtopic: when i meditate, and i start feeling tingling sensations or other sensations, i find it hard not to scratch my face or wherever i'm feeling them! because of this i find it hard to keep my body still. any tips?

Scratch the itch lightly and just refocus. Don't make a big deal out of it, and don't try to ignore it either.

I tried ignoring it before and it just gets worse... much the same way as if you were walking down the street and had a slight itch on your arm, you'd just scratch it and keep walking without thinking, right?

That's what you'll end up getting to. You're just becoming more aware of your body and a lot of times we have itches and tingling on the body but we don't notice until we start meditating which takes us back into the NOW and we become more aware of such things.

Supermark and Paul might be talking about different sorts of sensations.

During meditation, there are those kinds of sensations which had been there all along, and which you start noticing only because you're now keeping still.

But meditation can also give rise to a variety of other sensations, which depending on which philosophy you're inclined to, are explained in different ways.

Eg chakras opening up; kundalini moving; or you becoming aware of your energetic body. I also think that the exact kind of sensations experienced vary from person to person.

It's my arms and hands that tingle - it feels like "energy". My legs have had small, sudden sensations of little muscles unknotting or loosening. I get the feeling of pressure in the middle of my forehead, and occasionally the sensation of a movement in my chest which I can only describe as "opening up and going round and round". But as I said, I think it varies a lot from person to person.

Just yesterday I was feeling a little angry with a faceless somebody on the Internet (yah, I know, very stupid - and normally I hardly ever get angry with anything). Anyway I decided to do a little meditating to calm myself down, and to my surprise, for the first time, I felt the tingling in my face, quite sharp and intense.

I wasn't very sure what to do with it, I sensed this might not be good; I just decided to stop meditating.

i think i experienced both things that impaul99 and ALG mentioned. when i start meditating i almost always find something to scratch, and when i tried the exercise in the power of now wherein you try to feel the energy in your body i experienced the tingling sensations.

i don't know if i'm weird, but when i feel the tingling sensations moving around my body i find them somewhat ticklish find it hard to continue without moving my body a bit. i guess i'd just try impaul99's advice and not make a big deal out of it and just refocus.

thanks for the replies! i really appreciate it XD

It's totally normal. I think it's teh body doing what the mind does by introducing all these thoughts in your head; I think it's just that initial reaction to being still which is so strange for many of us, especially early on.

Interesting anecdote: I just finished a play where I had to be dead on stage for about 40 minutes. I did get blackouts to readjust, but I still had to sit still--DEAD still for about 20 minutes or less a stretch. I would get those sensations, but no matter how much I wanted to, I couldn't reach up and scratch. Eventually, they go away. And the longer you're there meditating the less conscious you are of your physical body, until those don't happen at all.

I did a guided meditation for spirit guides (find more info on Shift Your Spirits blog).

I met three guides. I talk to the main one, "Amanda" quite often. She looks like Mia Sara from the movie "Legend" and has an incredibly soothing voice. When I meditate, I often go into the lush forest scene from "Legend" and meet her, plus my other guides.

It's been barely a month since I've "met" my guides, so I'm still trying to figure out what to do. But, yes, you can find your guides through meditation.
