It seems important to get into an Alpha state in order to set up intentions. I'm trying to learn how to get into an Alpha state. I'd appreciate any input of what are your favorite ways of getting into the alpha state |

cool thread idea! I suppose that I'm more into getting into theta for feeling my etheric and body energies, but maybe that's similar. I know alpha is a higher brain wave frequency and I'm sure I have some alpha going on too, maybe while getting into theta. But I lie down, close my eyes, take breaths and hold them for a couple seconds and then let go when I exhale while doing auto suggestions. Like, with each breath I am getting deeper and deeper. So I do 3 or 4 deep breaths that I hold and let go. Then I scan my body and tell each part of me to relax and be heavy and auto suggest that it's so relaxed the every muscle is "off" or something like that. I've just started getting back into this and am going with looking for my chi energy in this state. Like generating a ball of energy in my center and moving it up to my crown and back to loosen up my energy body. I'm getting the energy ball ideas from Amazon.com: Sixth Sense: Stuart Wilde: Books as well as other kind of far out "etheric maneuvers". Also I've used brain wave music, like Amazon.com: Dr. Jeffrey Thompson Albums (CD, MP3, Vinyl, etc.), Related Products (DVD, Books, Apparel), Pictures, Discography, Biography, Community Discussions and more at the Dr. Jeffrey Thompson Store - there are specific brain wave frequencies - like you can get an alpha CD. |

| I use those brain wave cd's too. But i prefer music,totally. If i put music on and close my eyes and just move to it,or sit back and let waves of goosebumps wash over me,i can forget where i am,what time it is,the whole world disappears and there's just me and the music. |

Close eyes, deep breaths, focus on breath and then breathe as I count down from whatever depending on how relaxed I am. 50 if I'm trying to go deeeep, 25 or less if I'm fairly relaxed and/or don't wnat to go deep. Pretty simple and basic.

It might be pointless to ask, but I have a couple of "Gamma" meditation CDs I really like. The question is, *assuming* I'm attaining that particular state, would this help or hinder intention?

Here is a link that I found yesterday and I already went 2-3 times into alpha. Very easy. An article on the Silva method You need to be in a quiet environment though, like I found out. Waxfrog, you might want to start a new thread for that topic. |

There is a nice one that I read in a book by Laurie Cabot, where you breathe for a few minutes and get into a calm state, then picture OUTSIDE of you, a rosebud! Slowly the petals begin to open and this goes on until it is fully open in its full expression of beauty. Oh, it does mention to FEEL the beauty washing over you as it is opening, petal by petal... It's really a beautiful process this way. |

Sometimes I just close my eyes and meditate to a state similar to a self hypnotic state. Other times I listen to audio programs I create with Neuro Programmer and it's big brother Mind Workstation from Transparent Corporation.

I've used Silva, but I found a really easy method on youtube. I can't find it now though. You leave your eyes open, make sure your exhales are twice as long as your inhales, then eventually soften your vision so you can see more peripherally, then focus mentally on the space above, below & then behind you & let your eyes close when they want to, always exhaling longer than you inhale. It's pretty quick. |
