This House I Own.... I apologize, I am clueless as to where to post this and I am a little lost on what I am asking.
I have a house I bought 5 years ago. I love this building. Its old, cozy, unique. I wish I could move it to a better location and restore it to live in it. When I bought it I renovated the attached barn as a store front. The house could be residential or used as offices. Location is in a big summer & winter tourist area. Previous owner had a successful business there.
Since I have owned this building, from day one I have had more issues with lawyers and the building then I have ever had in my life combined. I could write up pages on the weird issues I have had to get lawyers to help me with. From weird property lines, to disappearing lawyers, to bad advice, to tenants taking advantage and costing me money, a botched sale. Presently I have a tenant who either I fight in small claims court for my $1000 he owes me or I just walk away. I was trying to sell it but my real estate agent pulled all signs and listings but will not cancel the agreement. I cannot hire someone new or sell without paying him a commission (for doing nothing). Lawyers say I am stuck until it runs out in August.
I am trying to be positive about the building. I have learned a whole heck of a lot about my states laws concerning tenants, real estate and so forth. My learning experience for the past 5 years. But on the other hand today I received a nasty letter from the tenant who owes me money and all I can do is shake. I am so burnt out. I feel like I have this huge weight. I wonder where the next lawsuit will be. Even if I sell it - will I get sued afterward. Its been a crazy pattern with this building.
I do not know if I just need to get this out there? Why would this pattern be going on? Can these things be changed? Is it me or is it the building? Though I must say I have never had issues like this with any other property. I guess I feel frustrated because I feel like it is a place I have put more then just money into. I have tried to preserve the building and make it better at the same time.
