Default Was Napolean Hill wrong?

In Napolean Hill's book he mentions writing down your monetary goal and assigning a date to it. He also says that you should write the 'service' which you intend to give in return for the money and recite this paragraph everyday.

Going by some posts on this forum does this then contradict general IM theory as you are assigning a time and also a method for the universe to manifest your desire hence negating the whole effect?

The issue here is whether or not you know and believe your intention to be true.

Some people say that when you assign a date, you create resistance because as you get closer and closer, you will notice more and more that what you desire is absent.

There are different schools of thought on how to approach this.

Many spiritual teachers including Jesus Christ, Abraham and Wallace Wattles say that you should believe that you already have what you're asking for.

Others think you should assign a date.

Personally, I try to spend time everday imagining myself having what I want, and feeling thankful that it showed up so quickly. Then when I open my eyes and don't see it in front of me, I just tell myself that it's already here, and I just think about something else.

My success rate is pretty high, but I know visualization works better for some people than others.

Napoleon Hill says several times in his book that there is no such reality as "something for nothing".
In other words: you must determine exactly what you intend to give in return [for the money you desire].

In The Secret and on this site, nobody talks about this "service in return"...
... unless being positive and grateful is considered a "service in return".

I don't know...

I gave a homeless guy $5, and he didn't offer me any service in exchange.

I got a good feeling from giving it to him, but he wasn't walking around thinking "What can I do to get someone to hand me $5?"

Or maybe he was. But he sure looked suprised when I gave it to him.

In this thread:

Intention Manifestation or Just Wishful Thinking

I gave two examples of LOA at work in my life. In both examples, I attached a timeline (kind of). In the first example, I wanted a conference speaking opportunity to manifest anytime within the next year. Instead the opportunity manifested in about one week.

In the second example, I aimed to be promoted in February 2007 (Feb being the month that my company announces promotions). However, I had made a mistake in my IM. Once I adjusted that mistake in late August 2006, I got a huge pay raise within weeks (early October). The bosses said that while they could not officially promote me till February 2007, they could increase my salary immediately.

Based on these two examples, my feel is that if you have indeed properly manifested your intention, the universe will not respect your deadline. Instead the universe will move faster than you had expected.
