Default The Objective of The Game of Life.

I've been thinking about the "game of life" a lot lately. It can be hard to wrap your head around the objective of it.

Usually games have pretty set goals. Get the most points. Win the most hands. Etc. But this one is different. Nobody really seems to know the objective. Is it to untangle karma? Is it to be popular? Make the most money? Do the most good? Some combination of all those?

When you can't figure it out long enough its really enough to make you scream.

So, I've spent most of time trying to figure out the point of the game is. I mean, we've got more information available to us today than in any point in history. It made sense to me that the more I learned and understood about the game and characters the better I would be able to find my role within it all.

For a long time my objective was to "do the most good," because that just seemed like the "right" thing to do. But, some things have happened that have made that objective pretty uninspiring to me anymore. I've had to rethink things a bit. I met someone, albeit briefly thus far, who I realized very quickly and clearly was leading a much more joyous life than I. And I realized that my pursuit of the objective of "doing good" was requiring more self sacrifice than it really should.

I've had to rethink my assumptions, and seriously reconsider what the game itself is about. For me at least, its certainly not a game of "Doing the most good." That idea is counter to the rules. For one, its not respecting the free will of the other players. Not to mention that one person simply can't fix all the problems in the system.

I spend the day today thinking of a new objective, and came up with something very simple: Celebrate life.

Of course, it fits right in with what Steve already said years ago.

Of course, figuring out the objective in the game of life sounds an awful lot like choosing a purpose.. hmmm.

It seems to me that everything else would flow from that. I imagine you would even end up doing lots of good just accidentally if you live your life as a celebration .

Yep. Honestly, if you're living only for "doing good" you aren't going to nearly as many "accidental" celebrations either.

Maybe the objective of life is to find out that there is no objective!

I think we're all looking for a purpose and reason. But maybe just "being" is enough.

Or maybe I'm reading too much Tolle.

Dan... good post!

I've often wondered this myself. I think ultimately its just to do what you love to do. Its probably not even about growing, unless one likes to seek it.

Is it "being" like tolle says? I don't know. I don't know if there is a new consciousness coming or not. I think I am reading too much tolle too, haha.

Anyway Celebrating Life sounds good.
