A Magical Moment, Sychronicity and Happy New Year!

I just wanted to share this with you...

On Christmas morning I was getting ready to go over to my friends for the day. I couldn't decide what to wear and was going to and fro from the bedroom to my study where I have a long mirror. I arrived at the mirror again and suddenly remembered I'd had a dream about big birds flying in the sky. I smiled to myself as I looked in the mirror, glad I'd remembered my dream. I realised I liked what I was wearing and turned to leave the room when something made me look up. The sun was only just coming up and there was thick fog outside. I could only just see the outline of the flats opposite me.

Then as I looked, magically, majestically, a heron glided out of the mist and swooped right up to my window before turning and flying over the rooftop. It was close ebough for me to see it's turned head and eye looking right at me!

For a surreal moment I wondered if I was still dreaming! It's wingspan was huge compared to the usual magpies and pigeons we have here.

I felt suddenly extraordinarily peaceful. Birds have always brought me messages but never a heron. I live right in the middle of a city and the nearest water where herons sometimes are is miles away.

To me herons are about balance and grace and that's what I feel I want to take with me into the new year. They are also very independant birds and that is something I can relate to.

It was an extraordinary moment. It's been on my mind since then. Last night I decided to go to town today to by a gratitude journal. I was feeling a teensy bit sad that I will spend new years alone this year as friends are doing different things. I went out today and immediately found exactly what I wanted - a little hardback book with a picture of a butterfly. Butterflies symbolise transformation to me and "borboleta" is my favourite Portuguese word :-)

On the way back on the bus, a friend I haven't seen in a long time popped into my head. Lo and behold as I got off the bus, there she was. She laughed and said she had been thinking of me too. I asked her where she was off to and she replied she was going to town to buy a gratitude journal! How funny is that. We started talking about The Secret and our hopes for the New Year.

So now I am looking forward to a beautiful new year. I no longer feel sad to be alone at midnight. I have a glass of Portuguese wine awaiting me, good music with Jools Holland and phone calls to friends to make at midnight.
