For many years I have hated driving on Christmas Eve, this started after I had an accident on CE, have witnessed or heard of accidents each Christmas Eve. I turned this day into an unlucky day. Today (Chrissy Eve) I had to go out to get some catfood, can't let the poor dear starve and a few last minute things. Had the kids (15 and 12) in the car with me, I was a little apprehensive so asked for protection. I got out of my street with no problem, and was heading up my town's main street when a taxi came straight out of a side street across my path. I saw the look of the passenger as he stared at me open mouthed, luckily I was able to stop in time. When the passenger realised I had stopped, he gave me a thumbs up and mouthed thanks. Damn taxi driver couldn't wait til I passed, where there was no cars following me. I refused to park in the shopping centre carpark, thought that was risking too much so we parked in a side street with no problem. On the way back had another close call, this time a dog ran across the road causing me to brake as well as oncoming traffic. I stopped with inches to spare. There was no way I was going out again, even with my husband driving. |

D'oh! Sounds like you haven't had the best day ever, but at least nobody got hurt! I think as you probably realise, you were focusing on the negative memories of what happened in the past, and as a result manifested negative stuff today. You expected today to turn out badly, so it did. Out of interest, do you find you have similar experiences on days other than Christmas Eve? I bet you don't, because you don't associate those days with dangerous roads, despite the fact that statistically you're probably no more likely to be involved in an accident on Christmas Eve than any other day. Perhaps you should try to consciously change your thought patterns from "what's going to go wrong this year?" to "this year I'll have a great Christmas Eve". Pete |
