Default One Of My Intentions

Hello friends,

I recently started a new blog. The content will be articlaes and tools to help us apply The Law Of Attraction. It is my intention to write a book some day. I want to start writing articles first. What services do some of you use to get copyrights for articles? Are there any free services? Thanks.

You don't need to do anything specific to establish a copyright. Like, there's no office or anything that you need to send an article to that establishes copyright. Copyright is assumed as soon as you create the article. You don't even have to use the little c with the circle around it.

If you're concerned about it, here's what you do:
  • Write your article/op-ed piece/book/whatever and print it out;
  • Take it to your local post office and mail it to yourself, registered;
  • Once the post office has had their hand at mashing your package and you pick it up, put the package - unopened - into a safe place.
  • If your copyright is ever infringed, you present the unopened package as evidence.
When you sell your article (and please don't give it away - working for free has another name: slavery) you'll undoubtedly have to sell first publication rights with it. When you do so, that means that you can't sell the identical article to another company (magazine, newspaper or whatever).

If you can - and not all publishers do this, but it's worth a try - specify in your contract that the sale is for a one-time, one-issue publication. If they wish to use the article at another time, or in another publication that they may own, they can do so for a prescribed fee. That fee will obviously be negotiated between you and the publishing company.

Then there's the whole issue of syndication... but that's putting the cart before the horse. First things first.

Good info. Thanks. Do you have anything published? Or are you just wealth of information?

I'm an absolute fountain - a veritable Niagara, a thunderous avalanche, a streaming cascade - of useless information.

But yes, I've had numerous things published in magazines, newspapers and private publications (annual reports, legal stuff for banks, etc.).

Nice imagery . I like to think of myself on a journey. A trickiing stream flowing down a mountainside. Intensifying in energy as I ride the rapids. Until one day, I am joined with the vast ocean and its unlimited possibilities.
