Default Fresh vs. Organic

I'm starting the Master Cleanse soon. I've been reading about it for a while, and now feel ready. Today, I went to a presentation about it at a health food store here, and *won* a Master Cleanse "kit" (yay!) consisting of the book, organic maple syrup, sea salt, cayenne pepper, laxative tea and organic lemon juice. The juice is bottled, and only has lemon juice - no additives at all.

When I thought of doing the Cleanse, I thought I would use fresh lemons. I don't mind the extra time for juicing them at all. The store was out of organic lemons, though, and I was wondering -- is it better to use the bottled juice, since it's organic, or would be fresh be better, even if they're conventionally grown? Ideally, I'll find some fresh organic lemons, but if they're not available, which would be preferable? The juice is flash-pasteurized... my feeling is that it has lost its "life", and fresh conventional lemons would be better, but I thought I'd ask the smart people on these forums.

Thanks!

I would have to agree with you. I think fruit is far better.

This article suggests that juice is even as bad as soda. I definitely wouldn't go that far, but I do think fruit is the best:

Instead of wasting time and energy for "cleansing" , why not give what your body needs on a regular basis.

Exclamation

i've always heard that it's better to use real lemons than bottled lemon juice.

and p.s., the Master Cleanse drink tastes disgusssssssting.

it wouldn't be that bad... but the cayenne pepper is a killer.

make sure you don't sprinkle too much, or you'll regret it.

I don't believe any time or energy will be wasted - it's just something I'll be doing. For me, it's very symbolic of a new beginning. AND I like how I've felt when I've fasted in the past; I've just never used the Master Cleanse before. I like the clarity that comes from fasting. It's been many years since I've done it.

They gave out little samples at the talk - it didn't taste bad to me, but there was hardly any cayenne in the cup! Thanks for the advice.

When you give what your body needs on regular basis and have proper rest. You are going to have strong mental clarity all the time.

Dont make fasting a habit. It's not equal to CRON ( calories restriction with optimal nutrition )

Yes, I know - again, this is a symbolic, spiritual act, as well as physical. Thanks for the links! I especially *really* enjoyed this quote, from the Sad Side of Fasting:

Quote:
The big problem that I have with such practitioners and gurus is that they seem to be much more interested in fitting people into their programs and philosophies than they are in carefully considering how each individual responds to specific food and lifestyle choices. Somewhere along the line, the mission seems to become more important than caring for each individual.
Very true! So I'm making sure to stay in touch with my body, and pay attention to what it needs. I don't think I'm going to become a Master Cleanse junkie! A fast is what I'm drawn to do right now, and this is how I've chosen to do it.
