Anyone know of a good whey protein powder? I'm using Optimum Nutrition's chocolate-flavored whey right now: Amazon.com: ON Gold Standard Dietary Supplement, 100% Natural Whey, Chocolate Flavor, 5.13-Pound Tub: Health & Personal Care The problem with that is that one of the ingredients is fructose and that it has caffeine in it, being made from cocoa. I don't really mind the fructose so much since it's at about the same concentration as in a fruit. The caffeine is a pretty big problem though. Cocoa wasn't on Amazon's list of ingredients at that link but it's written on the jar..! Here's what I'm looking for: -At least 70% protein. -Less than $8 per pound preferably. -No crap: artificial sweeteners, caffeine, ect. Stevia is OK. -If there's an unflavored whey protein for sale somewhere, I'd like to see it. -You should preferably own the product or have seen it somewhere. You could recommend an egg powder or some other type of protein powder too, I guess. I'd rather stay away from soy and it should probably be an animal protein. In addition to whey, I'm also eating this rice protein: Amazon.com: Nutribiotic - Rice Protein, 21 oz powder: Health & Personal Care Which is very good.. Nothing but rice, 80% protein. |

I also use whey protein. I made the switch from soy and I like it much better. A friend who I trust very much recommended the 365 brand from Whole Foods (not sure if you have a whole foods store or not). It's inexpensive because it isn't a "name brand", but it's also made by a natural company, so it's not jam packed with crap either. I just get the vanilla because I add coconut oil and frozen berries to mine. I couldn't find anything specific on their site about their products, but here's information about their line of products and you should be able to find out if there's a store nearby. Hope it helps! |

I get my whey protein from a company called Protein Direct. Its just pure whey with no additives. I have been buying and looking into protein powders for 30 odd years, and got sick of the scams and rip offs. If you aren't in Auastralia, I know there is a similar set up in the US. I came across one years ago, but it was too hard to get it to Oz. Protein Direct's web is: proteindirect.com.au Worth a look just for a reality check on protein powders. |

(but the price is still in Austrailian dollars) Did they mean that they're manufactured in the US and shipped from Austrialia? EDIT: I managed to find this so far: Whey Protein Concentrate Information Last edited by Minsc; 08-17-2007 at 12:49 PM. | |

Bob's Red Mill has an unflavored whey protein that I really like. It is more versatile than the flavored mixes... I've even experimented with adding it to my baking recipes, in addition to the endless flavors of protein shakes that are possible. Try WHEY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE for product information. Also, check out the 2 recipes on there: Protein Fruit Smoothie and Cinnamon Bran Muffins. Look for it in any grocery store that sells Bob's Red Mill products. If they don't carry it, they may be able to special order it. I've found I prefer whey over soy powders, it's easier on my digestion, and has a better amino acid/nutrient profile. |
