Something aroused that curiosity in all those people (perhaps that feeling that lurks when we have habits that control us, and we wish we could free ourselves from them). I see no harm in reviving this thread, even if just for a few hours.
I agree with you, but I wanted to mention it because people started responding to Angela since she started the topic.

Well, I DO appreciate the birthday wishes!

I have had alcohol in the three years since this thread -- I didn't end up stopping forever. But my drinking is not the same; it's very occasional now and I'm glad I stopped completely for those months. During that time, I was involved in a couple of relationships in which I was really listening to my addictive voice (the Beast) a lot -- and I was really believing my thoughts about a variety of things, in ways that weren't working well for me.

I've found the most important aspect of quitting drinking is filling that vaccuum where drinking used to be.

Quitting alcohol completely was probably one of the best things I have done for my mind and body (I guess together with quitting soft-drinks and crisps).

Hi all,

I was searching today for a free download of Allen Carr's book related to Stop Drinking. Didn't find one but I've found this thread on this forum.
Congratulations to all that did manage to quit drinking!

Why I'm on this forum?

My friend has drinking problems. Actually he can stay days and days without drinking at all but also has days when he drinks (and not a beer or a glass of wine; stronger drinksl) And I presume he often starts in the morning . (He lives in another city than mine, but I recognize his status from his voice).
I bought the other book, Easy Way to Quit Smoking and gave it to my friend, assuming that maybe the principles found in this book could help him in the drinking problem. He said he red it. Today he drank again.

I'm a computer developer, not a philologist, but I am sure I could translate the book in Romanian, so this friend could read it.

So now I'm asking if anyone who succedded in quitting drinking can offer me their book.

Thank you,
Anca

I just thought I would put in a few words that might give you more of an erg to stop.

My dad used to drink alot. I can barely remember loving him at all until he quit when I was 12. He would seriously put me in my room with toys instead of do something like go to the zoo or watch a movie.

I am 16, my dad has stopped drinking, and I love him to death. We go do alot of hunting and it has really been the best thing I think he has done for himself. What makes it better is he quit drinking and smoking all at the same time.
---

I really hope you are able to stop to. Good Luck!

One of the best things I learned in my NLP-Practitioner training is that you cannot make someone quit an addiction or do something unless he has an inner desire to do that. Our trainers told us many stories of clients who came to them for coaching only to find out that they don't really want to quit and that they prefer to keep the addiction for the perceived benefits it brings them. One girl decided, after a deep exploration of her motives, that she doesn't want to loose weight because then, she wouldn't be able to blame her lack of success on her appearance. At least, some people can be honest about it.

But for people who genuinely want to quit a nasty habit, I found NLP to be one of the best ways to help them, because it is so "ecological" - the coach or practitioner aims to help the client achieve lasting changes that do not produce negative consequences in any other area of the client's life - it is a holistic approach. One of the fundamental premises is that every behavior, without exception, has a positive intention behind it. That idea is to find ways of fulfilling the intention in a more positive way.

Hi Dan!

Do you know if there is a Romanian version of the book I search for?

Contributing as an alcoholic-in-recovery, I wish to convey that Alcoholics Anonymous is a spiritually-based program, and helps you not only stay off the boo's, it is a road map to locating and addressing the damages done to the mind and thought process by alcohol. You can advance as far as you want in this search, and I have discovered amazing things about the affects of alcohol on the psyche...enough to write a comprehensive essay. All of this information assists me in avoiding a relapse...which by the way re-activates ALL the prompts, bells and whistles that alcohol sets up over the years.

Boing swah!

Yeah, I noticed that! You had a completely different writing style and I almost felt you had a bit of lack of confidence in yourself. I think I noticed that you had the worthless gremlin still running about inside your head because you were apologizing to people for letting yourself down!

Such a turn around after three years...
