| Hello. I recently purchased some fitness equipment. A dumbbell bench and some weights. I like working out but it has a strange impact on me. It seems the more I work out the worse I do academically. Is this condition normal? Strange as it may sound I would like to find a way to balance working out and school. Any suggestions? |

| you wanna wait a bit more than half an hour before raising the query again. As for the working out affecting your grades, I don't think there should be any correlation, all things being equal. If you are spending less time studying now that you are working out, then that will have an effect. If you find yourself distracted from your study because you have become more interested in working out and learning about physiology then that will also have an effect. If you are taking supplements to help with working out then this may also have an effect depending on your diet and what supplements you are taking. I don't believe working out by itself will have any affect on your grades but perhaps someone who knows more about what affect working out has on the body's production of hormones and what affect those hormones have on brain activity can confirm this. |

| I do weight training and cardio regularly... Back when I was doing my degree, I had a weekly basketball competition, 2 days a week weight training, working as a nurse (physically and mentally demanding) and studying. Studies actually shows that exercising, weight training or cadio is actually good for the brain because exercise actually improves blood circulation and guess what?... our brain are filled with blood and plenty of arteries. In the other thread I was talking to you about memory enhancement by Kevin Trudeau, he actually teaches you about certain things that affects memory which most of us are unaware of. For eg: after eating a heavy meal, you shouldnt study because all the blood are in your digestive system receiving the nutrients. It will affect your memory recall at that moment. Eating white bread or white flour will affect your memory because it is actually hard to digest and blood rushes to your digestive system to break it down. 1.When exercising we tend to eat more... meat and carbs... what carbs are you eating?... white flour?... try wholegrain instead or rice. 2.When your muscles are aching from a workout, sometimes it can also act as a distraction because your attention is on your aching muscles. Change your routine to a very slow progessive increase in exercise so your body will adapt properly. (10mins 3days for 3 weeks, then 15 mins 3 days for 3 weeks, 20 mins 3 days for 3 weeks... etc... you know your own limits, change this guideline to suit you) 3.Dont exercise after 7pm because good proper deep sleep gives your brain a proper reorganizing of the informations you just studied. 4. Eat at 6pm study at 7:15pm till 10pm or 11pm... after that, maybe have a shower, dont do anything but hit the sack. 5.If you are studying, its best to exercise in the morning before you go to school rather than in the afternoon... save the afternoon and evening for studying. (same principle study now and then exercise is not efficient, all the blood rushes to your muscles and away from the brain where it is needed.) |

| Dennis, make sure you eat after a workout. Exercise takes a lot of energy and you need to replenish the nutrients used up during the exercise.
