Default The Demon Weed

sorry, still getting the hand of the posting mechanism and the last post was a little premature.

iI was going to add a little something about the additivies to tobacco, there is where the addictive substances are. my father was a life long pipe smoker (died at 78 and yes if he hadn't smoked he might have lived to 80 but s what), he found that because there are no additives to pipe tobacco (thats why the stuff keeps going out) he could smoke it regularly then give up fr a week or month and then pick it up again. Its like Winston Churchill on drinking "i use it, it doesn't use me", and the pleasure he got from his pipe. The othet thing he pointed out was, "ever see an angry pipe smoker?" well i mentioned Stalin , but then he was always smiling in his pics.

Now laslty regards pipe smoking, when the smoke nazis started wielding their cudgels what was the first thing they went after, pipe smokers. And yet, i loved the smell of the stuff, still do and most people i know agree. And this is smoke which is not heavily laden with chemicals.

Just two bits worth to the fire.

Oh, and lastly to the starter of the Thread, my heartfelt congratulations at kicking th weed. I understand it is not easy (never smoked cigarettes) and full marks t you. Congartulations.

Best regards

Neil

Default sloppy typing

And if I had taken more time,I would have delivered a post that wasn't riddled with typos. I am not one of those pedants that look at the typos and then disregard the message as being of little worth. But my apologies, it will not happen again.

And then he reaches for his pipe to reflect.....

regards

Neil

Thanks for the compliment.

We live in a society where thinking outside the box is NOT ALLOWED.

If you would allow me, I urge you to read the book I mentioned above and linked below. It will knock your mind for a loop. Trust me.

The Smoking Scare Debunked. Originally titled "Smoking is Good for You" (scanned PDF, 6.9Mb.)
Written by an Australian Doctor in the 70's, who found vast inconsistencies with everything he was taught to believe within the hijacked Health System (by Big Pharma.)

Did you know, right now if a person healed someone of cancer in Amerika (thru medicinal planets, eating dense green vegetables NOT tainted with synthetic pesiticides, and drinking PURE water, NOT tainted with dangerous synthetic chemicals) they would get arrested.

It's their loop hole called "Practicing medicine without a License."
The person is cured, but throw the healer in jail !

Thanks i will read the book, as always I keep an open mind, (always open , never closes, sounds like a corner store!). And your piece about the curing cancer. Well as we all know, the health authorities and the health industry are not interested if finding a cure for cancer. More money can be made through 'controlling' the problem, that's why they are so scared about us taking our power back and using 'alternative therapies'.

Thanks

Neil

Thumbs up

congratulation free spirit. i know how you feel. you deserve to be happy. i was a smoker too. and i feel like there is nothing amazing than winning in nicotine fighting. let us set up an international club or society or whatever that we can unite and fight against all these giant tobacco companies and show to them our strength. we can rule them!!! time to give back..

Default A Thank You and Some Tips for Quitting!

Hi All,

Just wanted to say thanks for your kind words of support and encourangement. Its nice to know there are people "out there" backing me up with positivity.

So, its 6 weeks on Sunday since I would have smoked and here are a few tips on how I did it, in case anyone is interested.

Firstly, environment is everything. Forget about will power, because it will fade into some unknown abyss, no matter how motivated you are feeling right now. Surround yourself with non smokers, do not consider going to social events where there will be smokers. If you live with a smoker and you are serious about giving up, move out!

Try and get your self a giving up "buddy". Some one who, preferably does not live with you, but is a good friend and has given up at the same time. Not only does this provide a bit of healthy competition, it also is someone who will completely understand what you are going through and mutual support is really important. I also used my "buddy" to conquer my first social smoking event with, neither one of us would let the other crack.

Give yourself a break of two weeks. So eat and spend what you want (with in some reason!) without feeling guilty. Just for a couple of weeks.

Go to the gym and/or start walking. This occupied my time in the first few weeks and gave me the dopamine "high" that I was missing from cigarettes.

This one is a star tip. Everytime you have a craving. Go and get yourself a glass of water. The time it takes you to get a glass, fill it and drink it, the craving usually passes. Also the water fills you up and replaces, that "empty" feeling you may get from withdrawing.

The physical cravings last just three days, and they are not that bad. They wont wake you up, they dont hurt, they are just like an itch you cant scratch. Thats it.

When people say "you are not missing out on anything", it's actually (believe it or not, because I never did!) true!

Good Luck and Thanks!

One thing to note is that withdrawal symptoms don't last 3 days, they PEAK at 3 days, and they typically last for about 1 to 2 weeks.

Also, my experience has shown that the buddy system for quitting smoking works really lousy--at least for me it did. Basically, I was talking someone in to trying to quit with me, and then when they relapsed (which they inevitably would) then it gave me the perfect excuse to start back up myself. Maybe I was just unlucky--I don't know. Any support is great, but an organized "quit buddy" was always a recipe for disaster for me.

Another thing is that my environment didn't really change--both my roommate and my best friend continued to smoke when I quit. These things bothered me to some degree but I did not allow them to become my excuse.

So what was important for success? My level of conviction. The strength of my decision; the strength of my resolve. (This is different from my level of willpower).

Whatever works for you is great though. Keep trying to quit if you haven't succeeded yet. Use the buddy system if it works for you; it just didn't work for me. Do whatever it takes. Keep trying different things until you make it...
