Default Mood effects of hormones/additives/chemicals?

I was wondering what everyone thinks about how our bodies react to what we ingest. Of particular interest to me is what these outside influences do to our moods.

As an example, I was formerly on hormonal birth control pills. I always felt out of control of my emotions and on edge. I had thoughts bombarding me at a mile a minute. Now, I've been off the pill for about a month and a half and I feel much calmer. It seems to get a little better everyday. Of course, there could also be some effect from consciously trying to to PD, but the real noticeable change has been since stopping the pill. I am wondering if it's pretty much out of my system by now?

Soda tends to give me what can only be described as panic attacks when I am already in an emotional state and make me jittery and nervous when I am having a 'normal' day. I am sure many people react this way to caffeine and sugar without even recognizing them as the culprits.

If anyone knows of any reliable sources of information on food/meds and mood, I would love it if you could point me in the right direction.

Thoughts?

Alchemiss is on a distinguished road

I saw a nutritionist many years ago and she recommended this book. It didn't change my life but I did learn a few things.
